Broken salvage quest - any fix?

Was doing one of the salvage contracts in the desert and it seems to have bugged out and has made itself impossible to complete.
It's the one where you need to use the Bristleback to dig up supply items.

The one I brought in got destroyed at the southern dig point, but there were wild bristlebacks that attacked me out of the blue there and one of them dug up a supply. So I picked it up. My inventory has 3 of them.
Quest didn't update, it keeps telling me to override a Bristleback, then when I bring one to it, it skips the "wait for it to dig something up" line and jumps to the "gather supplies", which I can't do as there's nothing to pick up.

Anything that can be done to fix it? Doesn't look like I can abandon the quest, and reloading an earlier save is no longer an option. I've gone away and done other things in the hope it would reset the location and start working, but it hasn't helped.

Nvm, found the answer. Needed to go get a Bristleback that was set to defensive and wait a minute for it to dig out another salvage. The aggressive one doesn't work for it.
