Better than Horizon Zero Dawn?
So, I pre-ordered Horizon Zero dawn here on steam when it came out, played it for 3 hours and quickly dropped it. I thought that the open world felt soulless and that the gameplay was boring and unfluid. Lets just say that I didnt have any clue as to why someone would put this on top of their list of the greatest games of all time. But I know we like different games. I do play a lot of games, so I really am picky of what I choose to sink time into. And I have no problem with open-world games.

One big plus was the graphics and the photo-mode, which I fumbled around with after downloading a savegame for the game. Now suddenly, it was rather enjoyable, but not for more than a few hours. I will be getting this later on just for this. But was wondering if this game is a giant step into the right direction, compared to the first game. If anyone who thought aliked could give any opinions on how the second game played compared to the first?

If you didn't like Horizon Zero Dawn, you probably won't like this game.

Give it a pass. There are plenty of other games to try out.
Forbidden west is zero dawn, but larger world, more grind, more quests, and way more armors and weapons. This time it's not only pouches you upgrade, but armors and weapons as well.

Controls are also way more fluid with how you can slide, jump, slide jump almost repeatedly for a faster travel there by a bit. Especially downhills :P

Damn sad to hear about more grind. I suppose we have potential of mods to fix that, as there were some for Zero Dawn that did similar.

No achievements from Zero Dawn will be transfered as far as I have been reading.
Its a "new" game for us PC gamers so we will need to get new weapons and such.
Kinda shame sins I got Alloy at lvl 60 with 18 ghost level points. Most gear is 4 dots so kinda top notch.
Will have to do it all again on Forbidden West but for what I have seen on Twitch it will be a awsome.

This imo. Gameplay wise it's mostly a refined Zero Dawn. Nothing major changed just lots of QoL improvements and alterations.

My overall feelings would be it was a one step forward one step back game. There were improvements like general combat feeling sharper (and things like being told where to actually find hunting grind loot was welcome, slightly less aimless unenjoyable grindy roaming) but then they hardcore nerfed traps with a ridiculous trap limit deleting the fun of them from the first game (it was bad enough that you needed a late game skill to pick up unused traps in ZD but now you can't even do that anymore instead only getting a little resources, it was literally the reason I ignored traps and only used tripcaster in the first game and it sucks the devs doubled down on that stupidity in FW and killed tripcasters as well). Also wasn't a fan of the ropecaster change.

Narratively the game hardcore drags as well since the middle section gives you three tasks to complete in any order meaning that nothing happens for a very long time as the game needs to keep the status quo until you've completed all the tasks.
I kept using the champion bow with mods for ice damage that was the most OP thing in zero dawn i wonder if something similar exists for FW as well.

This game doesn't hold a candle to ZD. Aloy is ugly and annoying now. She just won't shut up. She chatters relentlessly. The plot's pretty dumb. I won't spoiler it but, it's seriously stupid. I could have shat out a plot with all the same characters that made more sense and was more satisfying.

Silens is kind of sidelined and Aloy is a prick to him anyway. I can't remember how many times she said she's going to kill him. It made her sound so petulant.

It looks better. It's larger. There are some fun places to visit.

I'm going to buy it again for the PC experience but probably not at release.

Just hearing Lance Reddick once more is almost worth price alone.

Definitely. The most annoying part was the "top level for that gear" requiring hearts that has a annoyingly low droprate. So i'd rather it be a 50% chance, or drop every time tbh. So hoping for a mod that will fix that.

You were victim to one of the poorest choices of the game. Sluggish beginning. I mean, the very first part, the mountain chase is imaginative and well-paced. But after that, first few hours in the open world felt EXACTLY the same for me. On top of that--a rather disappointing combat in which I didn't do any damage and everything feelt clunky, etc.

Nothing could've been further from the truth later on. The stories of the world's inhabitants are "only good in the very worst", the world is full of wonders (literal) to discover, it rewards paying attention, weapons unfold almost exponentionally, and the combat starts to feel awesome as soon as you train yourself to really use the weak/strong stuff properly.
