That first tutorial boss was the hardest thing I encountered until I got out of the starting area. You can get a dozen points before needing to spend them pretty easily. If you can get into No Man's Land, you can get two dozen without much trouble! Once your level starts getting into the low teens, go to a campfire and make a manual save. Then try stuff out! If you don't like what you picked, load the save and spend the points somewhere else. Do-it-yourself respec!
Stealth is a very slow way of playing and unnecessary as there are no added benefits to stealthing - it only gets fast at higher levels when you have enough points and resources for smoke bombs and enough points into silent spear, low profile and silent move.
Then again, I played on new game Ultra hard, so if you go something like normal or story mode, you can do anything and just experiment - everything except traps are fine (traps don't work on PC - known bug).
