Chat voices for quests sometimes missing.
Occasionalla after some time playing if I chat with quest givers or hand in a quest, the voices turn silent although they seem to talk. Walking and fight noises still can be heard. I mainly noticed this in Plainsong.

Did anybody experience this as well?

Check the volume of the different sounds in the game. Maybe the reason can be found there?

As I wrote, the voices turn silent througout the game. The work for an unspecified time and suddenly, the chat voices are not heard anymore. This has nothing to do with the sound settings.

On the other hand, I have seen a few other posts about this issue and still no real fix from the developers. A restart of the game is not a real fix as the issue reoccurs after an unspecified time.
Try disable "System Sounds" and potentially other sounds you might have enabled in Volume mixer. I cannot remember exactly, but I had some app open in the background and at some point it disabled the game sound or parts of it when a notification sound was played. (Win 11). Might help.
Erm. I have no System sounds on. I disabled them since Windows 98, because they are annoying and not helpful. That is one of the first tzhings I do, when setting up a new OS.

Thx for the post.

I guess this is a thing that needs to be addressed at the developer end as there are dozens of posts regarding this everywhere.

I still need to check, whether this happens only in the Steam/Windows version or also in the PS5 version. However, this will take some time.

I have only SSD's in my computer.

It is a random effect which is not affected by the type of sound. Other sounds have no issue. Also in other towns this seem not to be an issue.

If it works fine for some time and then suddenly the problem appears, I'd guess it's a memory issue. How much RAM do you have?

Could also be a streaming issue of some kind. What kind of SSD is the game on?
SATA SSDs can't use DirectStorage so data streaming is significantly limited.

For graphics problems I'd also suggest checking for heat problems but that's highly unlikely for a sound problem, especially if other sounds work.

I never encountered that problem myself. I currently have the game on a Samsung 970 Evo Plus (PCIe3, 3.5GB/s) NVMe SSD and I have 32GB RAM.

Totally irrelevant. First walthrough I did not have this issue. It is a completellly random effect. Sometimes it happens the next time not.

BTW both of my gaming SSD's are 4TB NVME's on PCIx4 and I have 64GB RAM.

Update: I just had only one persons voice silent. The person on her side and Aloy's were Ok.

First play-through on the same system? If not, what changed?

Also, if you have an nVidia card, try disabling reflex. There have been posts that it causes weird bugs like that. Usually graphics, but who knows...
Of course on the same system. Nothing changed.

It is an absolutely random effect. Sometimes it happens, but mostely not.
I just had the voice sound disappear, just like OP. I noticed it happened around same time, as my firewall made a popup (which doesn't show for me while i'm in game). The firewall were waiting for me to allow or disallow Runtime broker web access. I have no clue as to what program wanted web access, but maybe it could be the game wanting to send telemetry at that point.

9800X3d, Nvidia 4080 Super. 64GB DDR5 Ram. Game on motherboard SSD stick.

"Nothing changed." - Really?
No Windows updates, no driver updates, nothing?
Other than running on SSD and your RAM, we don't even know which Windows, or how you output the sound.
No. It was immediately after installing the game this way and also after Windows updates. It has been always this way. This means, nothing, that changed had any impact at all.

Furthermore, this has been reported already since the first time the game was released on PC (Several reports found in Google). Therefore, any change is irrelevant as the issue has not been fixed from the beginning and is not related to the PC's at all.

BTW: As there is no real contribution, I will consider this as "NOT SOLVED" and will unsubscribe.

Some lines regularly drop out. Happened to me. Sometimes the soundtrack dropped out too. Yay.
