I once was hunting for apex slaughterspines and I fast traveld from site to site, killing them (I do drop the difficulty for crafting grinds because I vallue what's left of my sanity) and for two consecutive nights, not a single apex spawned.
Saving, quiting to title and loading again caused one to spawn at the very next site I visited...
1. Apex versions of robots are vastly (and in some cases exclusively to the best of my knowledge) likely to occur at night.
2. With the Thunderjaw in particular, it seemed to me that I had to kill a number of the normal ones and once I did, the apex variety seemed to be much more likely to spawn
3. There is one Thunderjaw site in particular that is...really easy to cheese.
There's a spot right next to a bonfire that has a broken airplane wing up at an angle that is perfect for cheesing the fight. You can get up on it, snipe it from a distance, and it will come up close but you can maneuver forward and back on top of the airplane wing and it is...just can't really hit you if you're careful.
It can't charge, because the airplane wheel blocks it. It can't tail swing, because you're elevated and the airplane wheel blocks it. Various attacks you can just step a few feet back and the airplane wheel blocks it, etc.
- Try to kill some more.
- Try saving and reloading (don't know whether a manual save could make a difference)
- Travel back and forth between far distant camps
I liked that one as well, until I found an even better one, next to a drone location in No Man's Land. You can almost feel sorry for that poor little defenseless machine there.

i already try travel so far away from a bonfire that spawn the thunderjaw, also i tryed to quit the game to main menu and load savegame again
no luck , always the fking regular level 30 thunderjaw , and i need an apex heart to upgrade to level 3 the legendary utaru armor, as well as other weapons
someone of us have been able to find an apex thunderjaw before going trhought almost end game??? (singularity mission quest)
maybe i need to be level 50 for the apex thunderjaw spawn? i´m go now to try kill it 5 times more and check if finally respawn the apex...
i already try to travel to the farest point in the map and return to the thunderjaw site and no luck lol , and as i said, that is with very hard difficulty and always on night time
I am not sure, but I would guess so.
Another option could be to clear the Kappa cauldron near the Greenhouse. Maybe the game just wants to bully you, and once you have the ability to override Thunderjaws, it starts spawning the Apex versions. ^^
But be careful there, this Cauldron is not that easy.
Explanation for this can be found from Notebook > Tutorials > Enemies > Machine types > Apex
thank you anyway, now im level 60 and now i can find the apex thunderjaw at night almost all times , in order to appear certain apex machines you need to be level 50 , otherwise is really hard to spawn apex machines
