Nvidia Frame Generation Version 310.1 is no good.
Hi All
I tested out the latest version of NVIDIA Frame gen that came out with DLSS 4, version 310.1. Unfortunately its no good. When aiming with the bow and panning the camera, which you do A LOT in game, its creates a horrible wobble effect, its very distracting. While this effect happens to some degree in all version, its far worse in this release. FSR3 does not have this issue and in my opinion is better than Nvidia FG in this rare case. If you prefer Nvidia FG then any other version works best but you still get wobbling/Smearing around all HUD elements when panning the camera.

Thats because you manually updated it when the game doesnt have native support for it. You'll have to do some tweakery with nvidia inspector and manually force-enable the new transformer model since the game has no UI option for it. About FG I have no damn clue. If I were you I would only update nvngx_dlss alone and keep the original dlssg. Or just mix dlss4 with fsr3 FG. Thats what everybody with a 20 series and 30 series cards do. They can render DLSS but they are locked out of dlss FG (because jacket man wanted to) but the AMD frame generation is available and should work fine I think.

I'm not talking about DLSS Resolution and the associated CNN and Transformer models, Super resolution works fine, including the new version with transformer model turned on. I'm only talking about the new Frame Gen version. There are new changes and features with the latest FG version, in most games its fine with UI, just the usual issues that we have come to expect, but often vastly improved. But in HFW the issues are worse than usual, worse than previous FG versions.
Forbidden West will receive an update that will natively support DLSS 4. I assume they will test that version and remove the bugs you talked about.

If it ever happens, I hope they are going to add a separate slider for upscaler sharpening and fix shadow flicker

You either get it from a game that already has it (CP2077, Hogwarts Legacy, etc), you get it from techpowerup website or you use the app "DLSS swapper".

Forbidden West is among the games I tried with DLSS 4. The latest driver 572.1 brings it up to version 310.2. I manually updated the DLLs and activated the latest Model K through nVidia Profile Inspector and confirmed the game is actually using it. Unlike some other games, it does not use it automatically after replacing the DLLs.

I could see that "wobble" effect once, right after enabling DLSS frame generation in the game. But when I quit and restart the game with the same settings, it's gone. All that's left is the occasional screen tearing due to VSync being disabled with frame gen.
already using dlss swapper, thanks!

but now, after a lot of testing, the frametime graph with fsr3.1 frame generation is much better than with any dlss version of frame generation, and i already try the latest 301.2 (dlss4) alongside the 3.8 and the 3.5.10 that comes by default on the game

and all of them has a slight constant microstuttering (i can see it on the frametime graph on msi afterburner while playing)

but on fsr3.1 frame generation, the frametime is completely plain, but when you open the map it look so weird like 30fps or so with a massive stuttering , anyone experienced this while using fsr3.1 frame generation in the game?

im using fsr3.1 frame gen but dlss4 super resolution transformer via dlss swapper (310.2 dll)

Can you/anyone confirm if anyone can turn on the new Transformer model for forbidden west on the Nvidia app. It's showing as unsupported?

Currently you can't do it in the nVidia App, the options are still grayed out. You can do it manually. I explained how I did it here:

Somehow Horizon ZD remaster is present in the supported games list, but FW isn't. Damn it, I'm getting sick of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

That "wobble" issue described by the OP might be the reason why it's not. I saw that too even though it's gone after restarting the game. Maybe nVidia see's that as an incompatibility and disabled the options in the App because of that. But it DOES work if you put a little bit of effort into it. :)

All you need to do is install one little tool, put one XML file into it's folder to make it a bit easier, and then change ONE setting in the game's profile. That's all.
There is one other downside to doing it manually though. You have to edit the profile every time you install a new driver because these profiles also get updated and thus reset to their defaults with every new driver. But when the nVidia Profile Inspector is already installed, all you need to do is to start it once and change one Setting once again.

I'm sure this will eventually get sorted out, probably with an update to the game itself. Especially since nVidia used this game to demonstrate the benefits of the new Transformer Model upscaling.
And if you don't want to wait for that, just enable it yourself. :)

No need to fiddle with DLLs anymore. Just download the latest drivers and the new Nvidia App and then you can override your existing DLLs and use the new Transformer model for Super Resolution and Frame Generation (and Ray Reconstruction in games that use it) Then if you don't like the way the new Frame Gen works you can just turn off the override and go back to using your existing DLSS 3 DLLs. In the future all the upgrades for DLSS 4 will come with the drivers and there will no longer be the need to upgrade the DLLs

Theoretically, yes. But not (yet) for Forbidden West, as the options to do so are disabled in the nVidia App.

DLSS Swapper also creates Backups, btw., and can easily restore the original DLLs. And nVidia Profile Inspector, when needed, can restore any profile to it's default settings as well...
I'm using the newest version available for DLSS and FG from DLSS Swapper and the game runs like a mf dream. Your rig gotta be crap/busto, OP...
