Playing on normal. at level 8. I do continuous light, light, heavy. I even stun him several times. Still don't win.

Timing is important, IIRC you have to get the next attack in the chain off before the animation stops for the current attack, unless the combo specifically notes a pause somewhere in the middle.

If you get it in too late, it's consider the start of a new combo.

havent played in awhile. but i remember that Aloy's staff/spear endpiece is supposed to glow as a hint to when you should press the button?

i would recommend investing some skill points into the melee skill tree to increase your damage. you can always respec for free. I remember struggling on this one on ultra hard because it was literally impossible without these points into melee damage. on normal you shouldn't have this issue. make sure you're getting the valor surge messages that say block breaker so that you can make sure you're doing it right. if you are, you just need to keep spamming it without stopping and should win eventually.

have you tried the heavy charged attack?

Do the light, light, heavy then hold heavy afterwards for a charged heavy attack, that'll get you the damage you need to drop him in the time.
Did it on Very Hard without the first melee damage buff from warrior track so it's 100% doable on normal.
