Singularity Mission
I am at this point in the Main Story. Its the you can't turn back point right. I have question marks and missions left...several.I am level 38. It feels odd to leave the main mission path now.I don't know what to do. The fate of the world rests on my shoulders.

You should go do all the unfinished activities if you can... not sure why you didnt focus on finishing them earlier.

I am at the same point in the story (have done everything except the arena) and I am already past lvl 60.

Yes you need to level up some more. Go do stuff.

I'd recommend you do a bit more stuff since, I'd say, you're a bit underleveled.

I remember rushing through main story for funsies and the final mission wasn't that fun at the end.

If you haven't done Second Verse yet, do that at least before Singularity.

What is the reason for specifically focusing only on that side quest prior to the end of the story? Ideally you want to ensure there is no unfinished business before the final quest. I dont see any benefit in doing stuff after the story is done.

Most side quests remain available after Singularity, although the dialogues in them may suffer a bit -- but then the same could be said about doing them after GEMINI/WINGS OF THE TEN instead of before, because WINGS OF THE TEN ends the 'penultimate' threat. As such, going after the rebel camps afterwards doesn't really make much sense.

I consider the Second Verse to be the most emotionally beautiful quest in the game, complete with environmental change.

Hearing the plowhorns sing is indeed a wonderful and funny thing at the same time. But I just see anyone who doesnt finish side content before the end of the story as kinda lazy...

Being brought up with old school games where you dont have the chance to do anything once the story is over, you ensure you are thorough in your exploration... I learnt the hard way having to redo games like TR3 for missing secrets.

There are a ton of errands and side quests that are fun, challenging and worth the effort. All of the companion quests should definitely get done though. Go explore and level up.
