Waiting for shader compilation
I have strange problem. My machine is well above recommended specs for this game and it was running smoothly without any problems. And today all of a sudden when i was trying to load the save the game was stuck on waiting for shader compilation. Anyone else with similar problem that found solution? Thx in advance for potentially problem solving answers.

As i said it never ocured to me either except in this one isolated case and now everything is back to normal again. Maybe the save file got corupted or it is the worst scenario (i hope it is not 😬) im not sure what is the case. And concerning microcode update im not sure should i get it instantly or wait until full release. Which option is better?

My personal opinion, run it now.

Motherboard vendors put the 'Beta' there to cover their ass on this issue.

Also you need to set your Motherboard power profile to the Intel default.

It's not about the average temp, it's about the voltage spikes that are killing people's CPUs, causing crashing in games or Windows depending on the task (like shader comp).

The last thing you want to do is deal with Intel and their terrible RMA process.

Sometimes my shaders rebuild themselves out of nowhere on initial game launch, if I force the game to quit with task manager and re-launch there is a chance it wont happen again and it loads the previously compiled shaders.... 95% of the times the game will load normally in 6 to 8 seconds on the cheapest of SATA SSDs.. Seems it is totally random. However they will ALWAYS rebuild at least once when you update your GPU drivers.

Dunno if it helps or not but I've done it myself, which is updating Direct Storage to version 1.2.3. seems it is more stable in general when its about the game and how it access to its files as you play in the open world

https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Direct3D.DirectStorage/1.2.3

download package 2.68mb (change the file extension to .rar) copypaste both .dll they are located in native/bin/x64, dstorage.dll and dstoragecore.dll and replace them in your HFW install folder

Thanks for sharing. Which display driver version are you using? I'd suggest clearing your DX12 driver shader cache files and trying again. Disable any manual or custom CPU overclock too. Are you using Intel's recommended power and current settings in your UEFI/BIOS? Getting stuck/game crashing to the desktop during the shader compilation process can signal CPU hardware instability. Are you aware of the following?

My display driver version is 560.81 (i tried reinstalling it but nothing changed). Thx a lot to both of you. I tried force quit, updating Direct Storage, clearing DX12 cache, i checked Intel settings in BIOS they are ok. It never happened before just all off a sudden infinite shader compilation (well maybe not infinite the longest i waited was 15 minute) i even tried to load earlier saves nothing works. Well i guess i will either quit completely or start from beginning (which is less likely after so many hours invested and almost near the end i guess). As i said everything worked perfectly fine until just out of nowhere BAM.

You're welcome. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it gets sorted out. If I had to start a playthrough of this game from scratch, I probably would never do it. In the meantime, check if you start experiencing similar issues or crashes in other games, as in that case, you may want to consider a CPU instability or chip degradation issue due to the known Intel Core 13th/14th Gen fiasco.

I have same. Just kill process and start game again

Are you getting a screen that says compiling shaders with a status bar like most games? I have not seen one yet in my entire playthrough? I do get specific areas of the map that get abnormally hot CPU temps and I am suspicious that maybe that is when shaders are compiling? I'm on a 4090 with 24GB if that matters.

If you have not seen a single one in your entire playtrough as you say...you are playing a different game really. Shaders had to be built at least once, they are directly tied to your CPU and storage unit/type. Of course the GPU renders them later but that has nothing to do with the process

I haven't seen any indication of it. Like I said, are you guys getting a screen with a progress bar showing shader compilation?

5900X with 4090 and 980 Pro SSD.

The shader compilation process in this game always occurs when you load your game for the first time, after updating the GPU driver, and if you clear the driver API shader cache. There is also some minor/marginal shader compilation/checks during in-game loads and on the fly during gameplay.

There is no big screen indicating the process, most shaders are compiled once during the game loading process and loads during gameplay, not when the game is launched or when you reach the main menu on first boot.

I found solution if it can be caled like that. Last 3 autosaves that i tried to load were stuck on loading but when i tried my last manual save game loaded as usual in like 10 seconds. I lost maybe like 1 hour of gameplay from last manual save but hey il take it. So always do your manual saves as much as you can. 😁

Figures.... You might be right. I personally delete auto saves before loading while still in the menu and load my Last manual save huh so that could be why

Did you update your Motherboard bios with the new micro code update and set the motherboard to the Intel recommended power profile?

If you have not that is the first thing I would do.

The problem you are describing is the CPU degradation problem that 13th and 14th gen intel CPUs have been having for almost a year now.

If you have updated the motherboard bios, set the approved Intel power profile and updated the CPU microcode and it still crashes on things like shader comp your CPU has permanent damage and you need to open a ticket with Intel customer support so they can replace the CPU.

Oof damn I hope it's not this. On a more hopeful note I'd like to add that every time you install a new driver it recompiles shaders and sometimes it seems like it's stuck but it just takes a while. And a couple times on my pc it seemed to legit get stuck on that so I just alt tabbed and closed it out and started it again and it worked. So if you recently freshly installed a new driver it might be that. Hope it's not the intel issue though. If you're not aware of it you should definitely look it up. It's big news in the pc gaming world right now.
