burning shores performance
i have a Legion 5 laptop with a 3060 and ryzen 5700. Was able to play the base game at medium and no complaints when i did some optimization. But just started burning shores and its dreadful. The fps tanked to like ....10. Even lowering the settings to very low AND trying to optimize that with dlss ultra performance and it looks ♥♥♥♥ at the same time i have terrible fps. What gives? I looked at the activity manager before i lowered the settings and the memory was att 97% but i couldnt even close anyhting else to free up some memory.

Help i dont know what to do next. Its unplayable as is and thats not me being a fps snob. :steamsad:

Solved it, look in my last comment

Unfortunately, the Burning Shores are much more graphically intensive than the base game, as the 'geometry' of the environment is much more complex. This isn't something NIXXES can fix.

Wait doesn't your laptop only have like 6 gb of VRAM. That clearly would be the issue.

this makes me scared as i have the same laptop.....

I have the legion 5 15A6HCH, im not too familiar with pc parts (hence why i have a laptop) and im guessing its the nvidia 3060 with 6gb vram thats the problem? But looking at the requirement chart (its for the complete edition not jut base game) it says 4gb on very low and then it doesnt say anything on the other settings. So why is it still compeltely unplayable on very low when clearly i meet low requirements for the game in its etirety?

Yeah i get that but shouldnt that be reflected in the system requirements then? My laptop is at recommended (maybe except for vram but thats isnt specified in the chart). So why is it not even playable at the very lowest settings?

Why are you asking me? I have nothing to do with the developers/port experts.

What resolution are you playing at? You know minimum specs means minimum quality right?

Your 3060 laptop is a mobile chip this is significantly less powerful than the desktop variant probably by like 50% if not more.

Try low settings and 720p, are you using DLSS? It' amazing try it out if you aren't already.

yes burning shores requires more power overall

Make sure you use DLSS with the updated version at

https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/

Search the install directory for the old one and replace it with the most recent version on the site, then make sure to set it in-game.

That's not even remotely true. The weakest 3060 Mobile chip probably has a closer gap than that.

https://youtu.be/S1sCLpkOkhY?si=bKgvZiEMBqwirvIi

3D MARK TIME SPY GRAPHICS:

3060 MOBILE- 8323 AVERAGE | 10439 HIGHEST
3060 DESKTOP- 8742 AVERAGE| 10656 HIGHEST

A best case 3060 mobile falls within 8 to 10 percent within the 3060 Desktop. The 4060 Mobile and 4060 Desktop have a much closer gap than that as well. The 60 class laptop modules are the most popular because they offer the most value per dollar.

If he has a full powered 3060 Laptop running at 130 to 140 watts at the boost frequency then the issue lies elsewhere.

As stated by Alcator, Burning Shores DLC is much more intensive because it is running the portion of the game that leverages the entire silicon and feature set of the PS5. It is very likely that you were able to run the base game because that portion also had to scale down to the much weaker x86 PS4 consoles which carries dividends onto PC.

Here's what I've come to notice to be the likely issue. Games that take advantage of the entire silicon of the PS5 require a lot of VRAM and very intensive on memory bandwidth and the speed of that memory. It also has a chance to UNDERPERFORM on 30 series mobile platforms with Ryzen CPUs because the CPU bandwidth is bottlenecked by low cache and slower DDR4 Memory Speeds. On a fixed APU platform like the PS5, The CPU can share with the GPU it's much faster GDDR6 memory speeds to significantly increase bandwidth which is very important for games that are constantly loading in a very high number of high quality assets. This is why Ratchet and Clank Rift apart underperforms on those platforms as well and would likely underperform on your system.

Yeah i was playing base game on 3440 1440 but no what what i lowered to in burning shores im still at 9-12 fps (checked this time). My friends played this on a 2060 and had to do some optimization to keep it at 60 fps, but nowhere near what im experiencing so i dont really understand. Even DLSS at ultra performance and im getting 10 fps

yeah but is it really feasable to drop from 60 to 10 fps on the same settings?

god i wish i understood that fully lol but i dont. I just still dont understand how the drop could be to dramatic. from 60 to 10 fps. And no matter what i change it stays around 10. I looked at game bars performance widget thing and when i was sitting in some grass right after the burning shores cutscene it said cpu 1%, gpu 72-100%, vram 67%, ram 85% and fps 10. And most settings were on low/off. 1080p and dlss ultra performance.

A 3060 and a 5700 is actually slightly more powerful than a PS5

Nvidia stopped making mobile versions of the GPU's with their RTX series. A 3060 in a laptop is exactly the same chip as a 3060 desktop, a GA106

The problem is Nixxes doesn't do a very good job of optimizing VRAM because I suspect they using AMD development software and not Nvidia's which is vastly superior and Omniverse has Apps that specifically optimize meshes and texture memory usage. Low and medium settings use considerably more VRAM than they should. This has been true for all their ports so far. While medium setting should be able to fit in 6 GB VRAM they barely ffit 8 GB
