I just lost 15 hours worth of progress
I was on a boss fight, the section where Aloy told the people in San Francisco that she would take care of it. Closed the game.
Next day when I wanted to play it shot me back like 15 hours worth of progress. I know I manual saved before this point, steam cloud was constancy being updated, and this is very weird as I have never encountered this issue with a game let alone people with this game. And it was very weird as the whole save was not corrupted.
I was excited to see what happens next, but this de-motivated me to finish the game, only for this bug to potentially happen again.
Has anyone encountered this?
Possible fixes? I do no think so, but maybe someone smarter than me can, as I prefer not to replay 15 hours worth of story, grinding, crafting, getting good equipment etc.

idk... game autosaves so. Likely something messed up on Steams end with their Cloud service. Either that or you probably have an autosave with less time lost on it.

I disable Steam Cloud. lots of games have trouble syncing with Cloud regardless of the platform... Gog.com, especially.

As Hydra said, disable cloud saving. In fact if you only play this game on one PC it's a good idea to disable cloud saving as it isn't necessary and saves locally anyway. Cloud saving isn't perfect and can mess up far more often then local saving. Personally, I only game on my home PC so I have cloud saving disabled across the board in all gaming services I use. It's just not as reliable as local saving.

BTW, your local save files are in your Documents folder with the games name - take a look at the time stamps on those and see if a more recent one can be loaded in game.

I dont trust cloud saving one bit. Always local.

But 15 hours?! Thats a long time. The game usually saves a bazillion times, tons of autosaves at various points. At the very least after each completed quest/activity.
The only time I havent had my own game saved has been zero storage left on the main drive, a problem I havent bothered to fix..., and the game warns me about that when its unable to save (unlike others that flat-out crashes)

yes there should be some save ...

i restarted the game recently and played for half an hour,
still i could restore the prev. game.

nothing wrong with cloud

some games like HZD store setting in the cloud
that is really bad if you have different machines

but FW will store game setting locally and saves in the cloud

if you have one device only it will not really matter
There will not only be your manual save but many auto saves in the area where you were last playing. If you can't find it you are simply not trying, or you have something on your computer doing rollbacks on your software when it thinks something bad happened.

Wow I will disable cloud saving. This is the first issue i've ever had with steam cloud

I still think you should have autosaves all over the place. Game has about 10 slots of autosaves that it alternates thru. Unless you just ignored all missions for about 15 hours, I don't get why you don't have an autosave, somewhere.

Kinda hard to believe that you didn't quick save at a single bonfire for 15 hours straight, as well.

I'm not sure, if this game does autosaves in the open world regularly or not... I never tested it. Just know that often after I die... I just spawn at the closest bonfire, even if I didn't save at it. (but I wouldn't play 15 hours straight without quicksaving at a bonfire, I know that much).

As for Cloud sync problems, I had it to where the game would be unplayable until I rebooted, because it can't upload sync with cloud and disables the play button. That's the main reason why I don't deal with cloud saves. Can't say I ever lost saves because of it, though. I don't think I have... with the only exception being games that tried to use Cloud Save as part of a Dead is Dead mode.... X3:TC tried doing that.
