[Bug] The Wound in the Sand - cant interact
Hi, I'm having a huge issue in this quest. I need to "find a way to repair the pump".

Aloy hints that you need to interact with the pump (or valve?) but they aren't interactable. I've watched several youtube videos and people usually have a prompt for "close valve"/"open valve".

It simply doesn't show up for me. I've tried relaunching the game, verifying game files, changing zones, fast traveling... nothing works!

And I can't just reload an earlier save, since I tried doing other things after I was stuck in there, and now all my autosaves are from a point where I already started that quest....

Any suggestions on how I can do this? Or do I just have to wait and hope for a fix?

I recall stumbling on possible solutions for the valve prompt (which was frustrating.. 'cause) I was searching for a solution for the same quest, but earlier when you follow the Z guy thru the spear town to the commander girl (the dude would get stuck after doing a 180 turn around. was a pathing problem that would eventually work itself out by letting the follow the dude thing reset, by leaving the city and returning real hours, later. Reloading alone wouldn't work because the guy would still be stuck at a ramp wall. Had to make the game forget/despawn the quest progress.)

The solution I've seen for the lack of a valve prompt was to reload to a previous save before entering the valve room (like... just after the forced battle).

I recall one solution was to first manually save ur game (at closest bonfire). Reboot the game and then Load the manual save (do not use the Continue option) and that was enough to fix it. (gonna guess that manual load forces the game to clear it's HDD cache' idk)

Another one was to fast travel to like the home base. then do the above and then run/ground machine ride all the way back to the puzzle, and it would then work. Like the game had to clear it's cache and fast traveling back and forth alone doesn't clear out the preloaded data like running across the map will. (in the same vein... ignoring the quest by doing another and coming back should also force the quest to respawn and hopefully fix itself.)

the missing valve interaction is a bug and has to be reported to support.

You can't "reset" the quest.

Thanks, but I've tried all of those, my only unavailable option is really reloading, the only way I can do that is if I restart the game, which I obviously am not keen to do... Fast traveling hasn't worked, I've done several lengthy quests in the meanwhile, and have returned several times to check if it has reset, and nothing.... It's frustrating :(

Thank you, I've submitted a report, let's hope they're quick to address the issue!

Well I can't really directly help because I didn't have this problem. I mean I remember the sequence you need to do.. but I suspect you do too. Only thing I can really confirm is that the triangle button (on PS4 and I guess Y button on a Xbox) is used to activate the valve wheel. (maybe pluging in a controller will shock the prompt into existance?)

1-first you activate the broken switch (valve wheels have no prompts in the first room).
2-Then you have to pull the vent with the puller, and I think maybe a platform, too.
3-Climb on platform, make a long jump to vent... Climb thru vent...
4-Activate the Valve wheel to turn off water.
5-you get notified by the commander that the water turned off.
6-drop off platform.
7-Activate the touchpad, then do a timed platform back wall jump to a ledge.
8-First attempt you jump across the room to a ledge that breaks... (awesome...)
9-Then spot a platform to pull down... and repeat the timer backward jump...
0-Jump to the valve... activate

then go back to the commandar who's hiding in the shadows... lol I walk past her everytime (all 2 times). then get some dialog.

But if you're not getting a prompt then ur stuck at step 4.

Yup, that's my issue, i've done everything (including the ledge that breaks, pulling down the platform, etc), I just don't get the prompt... And I play with a controller, so I don't get either the prompt for keyboard or controller. It's really an annoying bug.

The only thing I can think of to try due to PC... is send the save file to someone and see if they can get thru it. I don't have the PC version of this game, though. If they can't it would at least prove that it's a save file problem more than a game engine problem. And if that's the case... I doubt there is a way to workaround it, other than the devs actually fixing it. Or some genius figuring out what hex code controls that on/off trigger for the valve within the savefile.

The google search stuff about this prompt problem seem to all say to load a previous save to fix it. So... if it's something to do with the actual save file.. there probably isn't a way to fix it after the fact. Maybe Newgame+ will reset whatever flag.. but idk.

I mean... my guess is that the Devs blocked the mission via the valve prompt. And for whatever reason.... the trigger for the valve prompt didn't activate when it was supposed to. And now you can't reset the quest trigger for the prompt because the game resets the quest past the trigger point for the prompt.

I guess this quest isn't game stopping, so there is at least that.

--------------
Just found this article about a different bug:
https://nerdburglars.net/gameguides/hunting-grounds-quest-bug/
On the bottom of the article... apparently completing the board game tutorial fixes this guy's hunting grounds not working problem. So idk can try playing a breaker game and see if that does something; but sounds more like a mission completion workaround (via a menu based mission thing). probably won't do anything for a game engine problem.

it's still broken. no interaction possible with both wheels.
Ingolf May 7, 2024 @ 4:24am
Before I had same problem.
I am gone back to a save point before enter the pump room and it was working well.
[CTU]Jack_Bauer May 7, 2024 @ 5:31am
It worked for me when i did it i scanned the spear in the first room and she talked about changing the water flow and i could see the pipe going into the other room and i could then in that room scanned again in that room, turned the valve and she goes that is not it and i have too turn the handle and reach the valve after engaging the handle.

Pretty sure it was concluded that it can't be fixed if you continue on and the autosave gets overridden (or you refuse to lose hours played). Imagine it won't fix until New Game+

No, you don't loose hours of playtime. There are so many save-points.
Only some minutes.
Maybe go back after the fight with machines on the way. You will arrive in some minutes the pump station and follow all time the blue pipe from focus, including inside of the station.
You should have the option to turn and move the wheels of pumps.

I don't think you understand, or read the initial post. My issue is that i tried that quest and since it didn't work, i just moved on. I've finished the base game now, and that quest is the only one that's pending, uncompleted forever. Either I just let it stay there uncompleted or i have to restart the game. That's basically many hours played thrown into the garbage.

Yes, I have read everything.
Like the other users, I wanted to help you.
Have a nice day.

lol... no reason to be sensitive about it.
Forums are like this. And this forum is kinda unmodderated/not strict due to the high volume. Or... it's because they don't really see a problem and believe fully in free speech (which is pretty rare.)

Firaxis is the complete opposite, BTW... say anything bad about their game and your thread gets deleted and you get warned via lawyer speech. I got warned for advertisment when I linked that clone 44 game to their Xcom2 board.
