elemental buildup not working?

for specifics im in the rematch arena challenge against the slitherfang, using the ice arrows on the warrior bow and elemental buildup just wont work
the slitherfang is WEAK to ice so its definitely not immune
the arrows are hitting it and doing damage just not causing elemental buildup
this has happened multiple times and has ruined several runs
no the slitherfang is not already afflicted with ANY elemental status

Warrior bow is pretty weak outside of the special modes. Use another bow if you want elemental buildup

Slingshot with ice-bombs, goes faster in build-up, then use warrior bow with regular arrows (but you need to be close to the machine to really do damage)

yes i know, i use ice bombs normally, but this challenge has a fixed loadout meaning i can only use specific weapons, which is why im using the warrior bow

It's weak to ice but only a little (only one green arrow in the Focus readout), and the forced loadout is a weak warrior bow, none of your coils, and the weakest ice arrows. That trial when not on Story difficulty is mainly reliant on purgewater first (build traps before dropping off the platform into the arena, if you can't build elite traps yet go buy just one then you can craft them) and using the Valour technique to freeze it quickly.

Ok thanks for the tips everyone but that’s not what this thread is about, it’s about the elemental buildup NOT WORKING, it also wasn’t working on a tide ripper in the open world last night, and I was actually using elemental bombs that time (because it wasn’t a fixed load out arena match) and elemental buildup wasn’t working, it just stopped in the middle of the fight

if you, the player, has been drenched by purgewater, ( icon under health bar) you CAN NOT DEAL elemental for the duration. Use cleanse potion to remove effect immediately.

Hmm I wasn’t paying attention to my elemental status during the fight, I’m redo the fight when I can to see if that’s what happened
