What's with Aloy's inability to GETUP DAMMIT
Seriously, the most ANNOYING aspect of this game is Aloy's inability to get up in any sort of timely fashion after a knockdown - the finale on the Burning Shores being absolutely the worst (don't want to put spoilers).
What is dora the explorer doing ffs?? Lying down on the job - doesn't matter what weaves/coils you use, what outfits - she was waaaay better in HZD.
I dunno if there's any way to counteract it - rolling/dodging/gliding are about as good as it gets but if she's down she takes forever to get back up.
I've just spent time shouting at her to get up so I'll take my leave but boy is it frustrating!

It's not just the knockdown that can annoy me, but things in general feel slightly less responsive than they should. If I ever want to quickly scan during a fight, there can be a big delay before it pops up, starting to run again has some lag, as do other actions - it results in me feeling like I'm waiting for the game to do what I want instead of it just happening with full fluidity.

Also, sliding after running used to be instantaneous in HZD from what I remember, but now you have to wait a moment after running, and it can sometimes result in crouching instead (using Dualsense at least). I've tried to replicate what causes it to crouch instead of slide, but it really does seem near random.

Oh, agreed! Trying to scan as a fight starts just gets you blasted while waiting for the scanner to open, same as the slow wheel ammo crafting. I am sure she is not as responsive as HZD - the parkour can be such a trial (playing on pc that is) - handhold above you while Aloy just hangs doing nothing - can't do anything but drop and go back up. That lying on the floor/grass whatever just gets me - Ultra Hard was hard anyway, didn't need the lack of response time as well - just did my 4th run in easy mode - the finale knockdowns were no better than UH.

I find the same thing and although I've grown to accept it I can't fathom any reason why it should be this way. You get knocked down, take ages to get up, only to get instantly hit again. It would help if the controls were responsive enough to dodge an attack, or having an option to parry, but after a very short time it became monotonous so I've tried to play a distance/stealth game.

I'm not sure the timing/combo/if you don't get it exactly right you're knocked down again & again mechanic suits the game at all but if you're going that way with gameplay at least make the controls responsive enough.

XBox controller, both bluetooth & wired.

Its my only major gripe about the game to be honest.

The knockdowns are dumb af. In HZD Aloy would get up right away and you could long-roll to get out of the trouble. In this one you get knocked down, laying there waiting for the machines to get all up to you so you can get knocked down right away after the loooong "nap" aloy took.
Rolling is slow and way to short. No dodge, also make melee pointless besides hardly doing any damage and being slow af.

Oh yeah, run-slide is super slow on controller with half the time she just start to "sneak".

Climbing now is really dumb, with Aloy far to often refuse to pull-up the last "handhold", or jumps in a random direction when you press UP. At least the handholds are easier to see on all terrains.

has anybody notice that in melee whoever she fights always get 3 hits before she can get hers
Hydra_360ci Apr 30, 2024 @ 9:16am
no... I have noticed that when they get that red aura... they'll one hit kill u with an animation move where you can do nothing but watch. (too bad I don't have the same hatred toward's Aloy as I had with Abby...)

Yes to all of the above! She sure doesn't have any problems talking constantly tho...

Even though I'm enjoying most everything else about the game, I do have to say that the melee combat feels bad - acutally, the worst melee combat I've experienced in a modern game. My playstyle has always been strategic ranged combat so, that part is exciting but, whenever it forces melee it goes from fun to frustrating.

Ditto the above - I did find a small assist during melee - for the reasons you mention above, Aloy doesn't get hits in - however, when doing the last easy mode run, I noticed the person you were hitting with melee, blocks after 3 attempts - I used the glider to get over top of them, a run/jump/glide kind of thing, that stops the block and lets you lamp them.
In the heat of one battle in U/Hard I did see a momentary screen message - something like 'your opponents can block if you use the same melee technique' - don't quote me, it went real fast, but I did see it so that's why I tried jumping over them - that works.

In the melee pit it is explained enemies 'learn' how you fight and will block when you do the same attack over and over. But pressing the dodge button should make Aloy get up faster, but maybe she likes the group hug from machines........

Lol, same feeling, but I don't fault the game for it. For me, it adds challenge not to get hit, and I like it.

Yeah 100% a really annoying problem with this game, that wasn't there previously. A lot of these machines have sweeping attacks and charge attacks that hard knock you over. Kinda wish they take a fighting game approach with the knockback in future games where we can "tech" the landing to get back into the fight instantly.

Literally most of the machines in this game get back up immedietly after a non knockdown trip.

Combat roll for the win at times, however she does appear heavy at times to get back up or just move out of the way even timing it right to avoid a hit can still be a hit, so will be a interesting melee pit adventure on PC, i really was not a fan of that achievement on PS5, she is a bit random with her dodge and yes at times that knock back and getting back up can feel like an eternity.
Strexxin May 4, 2024 @ 3:03am
Melee in this game is complete trash in comparison to the first. What is the point in her dodge? Everything can track and reach her anyway, at least in the first you had the long dodge roll which actually worked.
