I see the dialogue options as just a "fun" addition and don't expect or really want it in the game. Note that these dialogue options are also fully voiced and possibly even motion captured, so I doubt Guerilla Games wanted to waste too much time on something that's already inconsequential.
It makes me constantly expect them during the playthrough. If they had none in the first place, i wouldn't have even thought about it.
It's like being offered a slice of pizza. Sure, it's nice but now i'm thinking about the whole thing.
My expectations were very well placed. The game gave plenty of choices in the starting area, before leaving Barren Light.
After that, they were super rare.
A feature used so rarely in a game this long makes me question what the deal is. Just saying "because it's fun" doesn't satisfy me.
If it's fun (which i think they are), why didn't they do it more often? Because it's not an rpg? That's not a valid excuse. There are plenty of dialogue choices in non-rpgs.
Imagine if you only used the grappling hook 10 times during the whole gameplay. Wouldn't you find it curious?
