Why are there so few dialogue choices?
Unless i'm forgetting a lot, I think there's like 10 choices max in the entire game, side quests included.

What happened? It's a cool feature that gets used to rarely that i wonder why they even bothered with it.

There are so many times in the story where we could have had some choices that wouldn't need to branch into much afterwards.

Without spoiling anything, there's a quest involving a person's bunker and i couldn't believe Aloy was going along with some jerk with no option to fight back. If ever there was a need for a renegade punch option, that was it.

Because its not an rpg, its an action adventure

The narrative in Horizon game is completely linear, and the "choices" you're offered are ultimately inconsequential to the story. Case in point with a possibly dead character from HZD showing up in FW.

I see the dialogue options as just a "fun" addition and don't expect or really want it in the game. Note that these dialogue options are also fully voiced and possibly even motion captured, so I doubt Guerilla Games wanted to waste too much time on something that's already inconsequential.

So why give any in the first place then?

It makes me constantly expect them during the playthrough. If they had none in the first place, i wouldn't have even thought about it.

It's like being offered a slice of pizza. Sure, it's nice but now i'm thinking about the whole thing.

My expectations were very well placed. The game gave plenty of choices in the starting area, before leaving Barren Light.

After that, they were super rare.

A feature used so rarely in a game this long makes me question what the deal is. Just saying "because it's fun" doesn't satisfy me.

If it's fun (which i think they are), why didn't they do it more often? Because it's not an rpg? That's not a valid excuse. There are plenty of dialogue choices in non-rpgs.

Imagine if you only used the grappling hook 10 times during the whole gameplay. Wouldn't you find it curious?

yeah... idk... I think it's due to Mass Effect. When the original game came out Mass Effect was still the game to imitate... and now... no one cares about Mass Effect's cause and effect storytelling. Most likely.. due to how ME3 ended.
