aside from that, if it really happens with medium textures as well then I guess it really is broken or that their engine simply cannot scale properly with 8 gb cards anymore
seeing 5-6 gb vram usage in most recent games on 8 gb gpu riles me up as much as they do you. don't get me wrong. I've personally queried about this a lot in Special K discord and most people there are positive that this is normal behaviour as you reach closer to maximum vram utilization, there are risks of instability and crashes so developers often try to leave some slack space on VRAM.
and this is exactly why NVIDIA's insistence on releasing 8 GB 4070s (laptop) and 8 GB 4060tis (desktop) is very... questionable. I've never seen planned obsolescence causing issues within the 1st year of a GPU (in the case of laptop 4070s and desktop 4060s). I believe NVIDIA at this point tries to force developers' hands and some developers simply don't bother because all the patches, special attention and fixes devs do to make their games run on 8 GB probably gives NVIDIA more confidence to keep releasing 8 GB GPUs. so at some point, developers will stop doing it and we may have reached that point where it becomes a painful experience to play games with 8 GB as they go between stable and unstable and they expect us to give in and either go console or get an overpriced 16 GB GPU (as 12 gb gpus will run into similar issues sooner or later as they only have 10.6 gb dxgi budget to work with)
I personally will try to endure with my 8 gb 3070 till gta 6 releases. medium textures, low textures, n64 textures, whatever. by then I hope 16 gb 60 tier cards will be common. I just don't have the luxury to buy a 4070ti super 16 gb, 16 GB 4060ti makes no sense, and 12 GB 4070 looks like a similar trap that they laid on 8 GB 3070 folks back in 2020.
But I made a mistake by buying an 8 GB GPU i should saved more money and get a 16GB GPU
But I find it strange when I see people uploading videos on Youtube playing the game very smoothly on 3060ti.
Precisely, this is a mistake that Nixxes has been making for some ports (since Ratchet, I think).
To say that the RTX3070 (8GB VRAM) is capable of high / very high 60 fps 1440p or 4K 30 FPS is just totally WRONG.
Their latest ports easily exceed 9GB VRAM, even 10GB VRAM in some places.
Nixxes claims this title will run on 3070 at 1440p high (everything) at 60fps.
Yet more proof DLSS is broken in this title.
