What is up with Clawstriders?

They're so slow, that you can walk to your destination faster than mounting one. Aren't their design based on Velociraptors? It would seem like that they should therefore be a bit faster, at least faster than humans. Also while mounting a Clawstrider, the Accelerate keybind doesn't do anything or increase speed?

They are a fighting mount, acid clawstrider with with lvl 4 perks can obliterate unless ganged up, most machines in this game.
