Combat Pit struggle in Scalding Spear

When I enter the Combat pit for the first challenge where I need to perform a combo it allows me to do it once successfully but on the next attempt it says wrong input and i cant complete the challenge. I need to perform the combo 3 times in the allotted time but after the first combo nothing works and continues to give me wrong input and starts me over again. Anyway to fix this?

There is no challenges requiring you to perform combos several times. Counter on your left means 3 combo actions. So in your case 1/3 means you perform first action right but struggle with second key / timing.

It is confusing indeed, until you figured out how the counter works. I gave up on the fourth and final pit combo's, either I am to fast or to slow, and after 20 or so tries it just felt not worth the struggle. Melee is already kind of crap
