I think it's the best looking game...
...of this century, so far. I mean wow! What a graphics!

RDR 2 is close second but in RDR2 you cannot fly and dive underwater. Water in RDR 2 is more or less flat and Arthur can't dive.

In HFW you can fly, ride and dive, but what blew me away was 3D grass/moss.
It's not just flat green texture like in the most of games. It looks 3D.
Anyway. For me it's 10/10.

You all need to play some more games if you think RDR2, a game build from a engine iteration made for the Xbox 360 comes even close to being the best looking PC game.

Metro Exodus Enhanced
Far Cry New Dawn
Cyberpunk
Plague Tale
FH5
Alan Wake 2
Hitman 3
Death Stranding
Avatar
Miles Morales

I could go on all day naming games that look better than RDR2.

RDR2 in 2019 was fantastic but in 2024 (or even 2022) it's age is showing badly. For instance nearly all the textures are 1K and 512 rather than 2K and 4K textures seen in games Like HFW, Avatar, Alan Wake 2 or any games that has been upgraded to PS5

People complain about the way Aloy looks but the women in RDR2 are some of the most butt ugly I've seen in a modern video game. The skin textures are just horrible in that game
Games made with the Decima (game engine):

Killzone: Shadow Fall -PS4
Until Dawn -PS4
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood -PS4
Horizon Zero Dawn -PS4
Death Stranding PS4/5/Windows/MacOS/iOS/iPadOS
Horizon Forbidden West - PS4/5/Windows
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach -PS5

All those games have amazing visuals

I keep saying to myself that the Decima Engine is by far my favourite. Horizon Zero Dawn - and now Forbidden West - gave me the "wow" reaction as did Death Stranding (all played on PC, I do not own a console)

I'm guessing its going to be a while for Death Stranding 2 on PC as like HZD, the first Death Stranding, and HFW I'm assuming it will be a Playstation exclusive at launch.

To the OP yes the graphics are stunning, and its Horizon - with Aloy - what's not to like :-)

Can't wait to actually fly one of those machine-birds. Not got there yet though, I'm taking my time, I keep deviating to those unknown places and feeling sorry for NPC's who've mislaid their friend/farmer/warrior/lover/cat/dog/rabbit(okay not those last three) carelessly near machines which are not too keen on humans being there.
RDR2 is definitely a good looking game and yes its textures hasn't aged well, FW looks better that way. But RDR2 is close to 6 years old now...at the time of its release, it was without a doubt the best looking game. And when it released on PC, it was frikkin gorgeous.
Best looking open world game.

RDR2's stormy afternoons in the landscapes, or god rays through the trees in the morning, or Saint Denis at night, a lot of things look very impressive in RDR2 at 6k and the game is very easy to run in any hardware, from the list I think only Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 have that wow factor at times, maybe a Plague Tale but it's a very disgusting game, the other games from the list also look very good too, but I'll take Metro Exodus, Hitman 3 and Farcry off the list, they look a bit old.

Honestly this is the best looking pc game I've ever played. Technically, sure, it falls short. But the art direction and the technical accomplishments using rasterized lighting blow any Ray Traced game out of the water.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is still unbeatable graphics wise.

Yeah, the best looking game. And the best graphics without any nonsense Digital Foundry gimmicks.
I'd go as far as to say that it's objectively the best-looking game ever created (unsurprising when you consider that it's from the developers of the Killzone series).

It's the only game where I constantly stop my character and just look at my surroundings. I did it with the PS5 version and again on my 4080.
What's truly amazing aside from stunning visuals in general is that you can fight tens of machines at once with a ton of super high quality effects on the screen and it doesn't tank the performance.Plus the fact that each machine has a lot of parts that can be shot off. Cinematic level experience. Also FW has probably the most detailed animations I've seen

RDR2 actually has less flat water with better looking ripples especially when interacting with it.
Overall though HZFW is a prettier game i think..
Having played quite a few games with Raytraced lighting, i can notice the lighting looking wrong in places where artistic designers didn't touch the game though.
But, the texture work and geometry in this game are amazing.
And so is most of the shadows and lighting and especially character rendering.
RDR2 though, i think can have better indirect lighting in some area's.
Still, objectively speaking i think Cyberpunk with path tracing is and will be the best looking game ever for a long time. That is; it's purely because of the extreme level of realism regarding lighting, shadows and reflections in combination with a high-poly environment and decent texture work.
Of course many games that will come out this year might look subjectively better, but technically spoken it will remain a milestone for a long time.

Horizon FW has awesome cutscenes and the open world is very colorful with cute rocks and cool robots with cute blue lights, but it has horrible PS2 quality dust effects, poor water that sometimes looks like mercury, poor SSAO, etc, etc., RDR2 is not as colorful but it looks more realistic with better lighting and all the effects like dust, fog, water, fire, smoke, have much better quality than HFW and it is much easier on the hardware. I can run it at 6k with no problems and it looks stunning.
