It is just... a box
Let's count:
- 3 Sunwings
- 2 Acid Clawstriders (one is Apex)
- 1 Fire Clawstrider

And then there is also a nasty surprise waiting when opening the Firegleam

All just there to protect.... ONE BOX OF PURPLE VALUES!

And this is not the first time, I mean... I thought one other studio did nasty things like keep spawning hordes of enemies just to get from A to B and back again. But this 'trap and getting crap' fights are way out of line. It is not rewarding, it is a slap in the face after such a long hard fight. While other ? places give you more just opening a wall.

Why this inconsistency? How do you other players feel about getting rewarded for exploring?

the real reward was the machine parts and exp points we made along the way

Guess you are right. The reward is scrap, charts, and experience... :steambored:

Yeah, the reward boxes in this game are mostly a joke...yet I still feel compelled to open every one of them when I see them.

Machines mean lots of resources. So its not just the chest..and there is probably more there. Not to mention you could find out whats there with your focus even before fighting anything. Exp and a but load of machine parts and weapon resources is nothing to laugh at.

The boxes get better the further West you go. The ones on the coast have gold bars and statues in them. You're going to need every shard you can get so open every one of them. Purple level ammo will use up your resources as fast as you can find them.

30k shards, and only gaining. But I know the best gear is south west, but I did not see Legendary weapons (only have one from a quest I think). And yes... I did open each chest that is at least blue, the greens are rubbish

me. i definitely open every chest i come across. The exception is if it seems like i'll have to go through a wall or something to get it, then i pretty much just ignore it. If i cant loot it in 5 seconds then its not worth it. The rewards in these chests, so far, have been completely useless. The exception being the chests they put right in plain sight that have tons of stuff like traps and health potions, usually found as an obvious reward for beating a quest.

the real reward as someone else said is the experience points and machine parts. sometimes its satisfying to just charge in and kill everything with melee instead of trying to play rambo.

There are two kinds of boxes: valuables boxes and supply boxes. Valuables hold, well, valuables you can sell to get the shards and keep economy running, while supply boxes are intended to give you fast replenish during/after combat in places you cannot for some reason resupply fast (i.e. are locked in quest area). I find supply chests actually useful and desired, as they tend to contain lots of Machine Muscles, which are rather hard to come by during normal hunt, Circulators, and other important stuff. Also, there are sometimes special catches, usually the ones that needs to be pried open, that contain outfit or weapon reward (they are rare, thou, and usually tied to side quest areas).
In the end, I'd say that they are good to pick when you are passing by, but not that much to chase after them, unless you are runing poor, resources-dry or are just man-sized hamster :>

(Aaaaand my favorite one is the box that is guarded by Apex Shellsnapper - there is datapoint next to it, thou).
