How the hell do I find a damn apex thunderjaw

I swear I've check 15 site over 5 times each the damn thing never spawns I've been playing just below the highest difficulty since I booted the game but my gawd I can't find any do I need to do something?

afaik its level and time of day based, too low no apex, not night, no apex

I had trouble finding them first too:
I kept passing time to Night at a shelter then circled through all Thunderjaw sites multiple times without luck.

Then I've read that you have to kill a certain number of regular ones for Apex variants to spawn. I don't know if it's true, but it worked for me.

By the time the first Apex Thunderjaw spawned for me I've killed 5 regular ones according to game statistics.

I was trying this first I've already killed 15 of them before the first reply here mentioned night and then it all fell into place XD

Ah, this explains for me why I can not find an Apex *. I need a heart of one machine to get the armour I want. But Also I found this machine has two sites and only one is shown on the map somehow. Lucky enough I know were that hidden one is
