As it was in HZD, it will fight back if you use it to attack (while mounted) or it gets attacked.
Or
If you go down the skill tree and unlock the skill that allows you to specify the behaviour (defender or aggressive) :) This is the new part :D
That is so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though. When they are an enemy they move fast and people riding them move fast so why can't they move fast when Aloy is using them?
Yea. It feel, they defined "defensive" as more like "passive" to artificialy justify the existance of the skill that lets you select the behaviour.
Now you can choose between "don't do squat" and "immediately pick a fight with anything that moves in a 5-leage radius".
and Raptors do feel rather lame as mounts to me too. They look cool AF but are slow and clumsy compared to a charger.
And the speed difference is stupid too... The diff between Charger and the Boar is noticeable, but small. The Strider just feels as if they are stuck in 1st gear/ slow movement mode.
And the worst part is they have no real place in the game with these issues unless you are playing the machine master role.
-Early game: You start with the Charger and the Boar is unlocked quite early. Both have many more machine sites and are relatively similar in speeds
-Mid game: You first need to unlock their overrides (IIRC) then you need to find their sites and hope that they don't cut you, or your overriden mount to pieces. And if you don't have the attack mode skill, they just stand around. And even if you DO have said skill, setting them to attack mode makes them VERY hard to control AND keep alive. All of this AND they are the slowest mount by far is just the cherry on the crap cake...
-Late/ Post game: You get a late game flying mount so now your ground mount can be used as a "battle buddy" only by now, the mount is much weaker than Aloy
No. You can select the behaviour during the hacking if you have the relevant skill.
No, what they actually did is made it so if you chose to have it passive and not fight then you have chosen that one purely for riding and not as a companion to fight by your side, when you are a long way from a mount herd it can be annoying sometimes for your mount to go charging in and get blown up leaving you mountless, make sense ?.
Not realy.
There was nothing stopping them from giving mountable and non-mountable machines a different default behaviour.
Why do that when you can have a mount that will attack on sight of an enemy and act as a guard dog, you go charging in on your mount with a flurry of attacks and hop off mid battle with a group of enemies and shoot what it is attacking for extra effect, OR you choose passive if you are afraid of destroying your mount and hop off way before engaging for a more stealthy approach, your mount kinda ruins stealth when it charges in going ape.
To be honest they could not have done it better, you can still turn pretty much any machine that is not a mount in the game into your personal murder machine as well remember, you can have your mount and another machine going all out and causing major hurt on the enemy.
