You'll probably go splat first time you see a shellsnapper or a tremortusk.
(You want a hard "leveling" experience? Grind your gear upgrades. Ok, certainly not hard as in challenging. But a massive grind.)
The deeper you go you will need 1,2,3,5 points per skill level.
Also Valor Surges have 3 levels (2 to upgrade) :)
This, I play on hard and often get killed in one hit by some monsters. I will do lower level missions when my gear is depleted, then take on higher level ones when I build it back up.
I'm level 30 and feel like I am running out, partially because I haven't touched the mount tree
I've always considered it an acceptable break from reality. Mass Effect did something similar.
Hope i could help ya :)
Cheers
