So apparently ps5 has 8 bluetooth signals
2 for each controller. 1 per controller for basic input and 'vibration'. Another for audio/haptic. And until we get a 2x bluetooth connection solution for pc we are stuck with having to use wired for full dualsense features. In HFW, the adaptive triggers sorta work in wireless, very weakly. Directional '3D' haptics like feeling the grass, water, waterfalls, campfires, etc requires wired.

That's correct. With Steam Input on with wireless bluetooth, and even though Steam says you're using a Dualsense, in games you seem to be emulating a DS4. Full Dualsense functions are only available with Steam Input off and a wired controller. I tried that with Spidey and didn't like it at all.

When PSNow was a thing, Sony released a dongle that worked with PC's. I don't think there is a PS5 equivalent of PSNow so it's unlikely that they'll release a dongle for the Dualsense and they're also unlikely to give their bluetooth tech to any third party.

I guess we'll just have to wear it and go wired or, shock horror, use a different pad! Personally, I will go that route as firing arrows with Sony triggers made a mess of my fingers!

Did any one notice the adaptive triggers get stronger on bluetooth connection and weaker on wired connection at the same situation ?

I think, via Bluetooth, the controller is only emulating a DS4. As has been said many times, the only way to get true Dualsense functionality on PC is to plug the controller in, and that's only if the game actually supports the Dualsense anyway.

The opposite for me. Wired made the trigger effect stronger like in the ps5 version of the game.

You may just be using a substandard usb-c cord.

Only around one in five use a PS controller, not sure how many of them use a dualsense one but it won't be a priority for anyone

I got the most expensive USBC cable I could find for my Dualsense, I tried it in Spider Man Remastered and any way I tried setting it up it just didn't feel very responsive. I tried it over bluetooth with another game and it performed like my DS4 did, which is what it will emulate. Until someone makes a combo dongle that will transmit audio to the controller I don't honestly think that a Dualsense is the best pad to use on a PC.

Xbox pads are less gimmicky and work flawlessly. I don't think that there will be a replacement for the Series X and S as there are reports of MS moving out of the console market to focus on PC's and AI. A modern Xbox is pretty much a gaming PC that uses a TV instead of a monitor. In that respect, why not just get a gaming PC!? After all MS did put all that Xbox stuff in Windows anyway.

I would've thought that whatever the controller comes with would be fine. I bought a used controller so I didn't get a box or a cable.

It doesn't help that Window's implementation of Bluetooth has always been a bit wonky and unreliable. That's why I have always used the USB wireless dongle with Xbox controllers rather than deal with the dodgy Bluetooth

I do too mostly. I got an Xbox pad that came bundled with the dongle and I also have an official dongle for a DS4. The DS4 rocked in most PS ports, it was uber in Death Stranding as you got an official config. I think you did in HZD, but, the triggers on the DS4 were painful to use after a long while, the edges really hurt my fingers.

The triggers on the Dualsense aren't much better so I'd probably use my Xbox pad or my Switch Pro in HFW anyway.

I've been using an Elite 2 for over two years now mainly so I can map the joystick buttons to the paddles on the bottom. The main cause of joystick drift is those damned buttons and the way some game over use them. In this game it is a lot easier to do sprint and slides using the left paddle to sprint. It's also easier to use my Focus with the right paddle rather than pushing down on the right joystick button.

Most controllers I've used start drift after 12 - 18 months but I've had the Ultimate 2 for 27+ months and still no hint of joystick drift

Maybe the usb port on the pc is not powered sufficiently? Front usb ports usually not have the same power output as rear usb ports. Laptop usb ports can vary depending on your laptop's design. I get the full intended haptic forces with rear usb plugged in.

Thank you - I hadn't thought of that.

I've just recently got an Elite 2 and kept hitting the paddles by accident triggering jump/roll etc**

It was getting Aloy killed an embarrassing amount of times until I just removed the paddles figuring I'd look at the config later.

Now you've mentioned using them for sprint & focus I'll spend a bit of time remapping them, also the push down for focus and sprint seems quite hard which I'm assuming is because the controller is new.

** not sure if it was default mapping or something in my system, but was annoying.
