Machine muscle needs a higher drop rate and drop more pieces.
I'm at a point now where I recently had zero machine muscles and zero ammo that uses them and I've been farming machines for almost 2 hours now and only collected about 30. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Check your stash maybe? You can only carry a limited amount at a time. I have had zero problems with machine muscle because I tend to refill at stash locations if I'm running low.

check your stash mate, and replenish your bag frequently (hold R in stash). They drop like hotcakes and you should never run out unless you're selling them.

yeah, stash is empty too. :(

I feel like I'm in Fallout 4 rampaging for adhesive again.

There are passives that increase amount of resources gathered in the survivalist skill tree. I've personally never encountered this issue myself tbh, I'm always full. Also don't forget to upgrade your satchels.

I guess that could happen if you mostly use Sharpshooter bows.

Also this. Don't just use one weapon and one ammo type. This is what happens when you do. Some munitions are 'economical', some are high power and expensive. All the weapons have upsides and downsides. Juggle them.

Check the merchants, some of them sell machine muscle. I kept running low until I realised this. Filled up on it and haven't run low since.

There's also a bow that has ammo with decent tear damage without using machine muscle for crafting. Use the ammo that does need it for initial quick hits before they're aware of you to remove components then switch to the other ammo to avoid waste.

OP is almost certainly using expensive ammo to take down cheap threats.

. . .especially as "machine muscle" is on literally every machine.

Yup, sounds like the old HZD issue of not having wire because of overuse of both the sharpshot and the ropecaster

I think it's an unnecessary issue of arbitrary design. Artificially extending the amount of time it takes to kill an enemy. Probably to cover for how often you could accidentally kill a machine before breaking off the component you need because of how hard to target they are with machines spazzing out like epileptics.

Did you have to bring medical conditions into it? Weird way to cover for a skill issue.

Agreed with the others. You're using fun explosive ammo too much. I like using the stuff too, so I end up needing to buy the machine muscle from shops. You will need to vary your usage of weapons to avoid getting into this situation.

Since you already checked the stash, use hunter bow with high tear ammo or shredder (also high tear). You'll get tons of components. I play on ultra hard, so I need a lot of ammo for fights, and I've never been lacking these resources yet.

I have no idea what you are trying to communicate here, but I'll take a stab at it: I'm playing on the hardest difficulty that isn't broken on a first playthrough, and I don't have these ammo woes. The comment about component tearing also doesn't make sense as "machine muscle" isn't a component, it's a resource.

Speaking of components, the Hunter's Bow is going to be the best option for that, not the Sharpshot: ammo everywhere, can draw three with a weapon technique and draws leagues faster than the Sharpshot.

. . .OP, if you actually are enjoying the game and want to really engage with the game and its systems, you gotta be reading those tutorials to know which is the right tool for the current job (once you do, and you aren't playing on the broken Ultra-Hard for a first playthrough), you'll start to see just how well the systems in this actually work (nothing arbitrary at all about it or meant to artificially inflate difficulty.

Sorry for butting in, but I can't find any skill in the Survivor tree that increase amount of machine resources gathered. I can see one for plants Plant Forager, nothing for other resources. You don't happen to know the name of the skill?
