Even more with how quickly enemies shift around even while 'concentrating', hitting weak spots that are less in the open can be quite difficult without proper aim. At least for 'more casual' players like me. :)
In fact, I opted to skip Zero Dawn entirely (I've never played either game) and watch a story recap on YouTube to jump straight into Forbidden West it feels THAT much better than Zero Dawn on mkb.
You skiped the first one only for the controls?
But yeah, mouse aming makes a HUGE difference -- there's no comparison, a controller stick analog aiming does NOT sllow 1:1 input. It uses an acceleration curve -- meaning, you don't build muscle memory over time as you aim. As years go by, this causes a MASSIVE skill gap for player who use both. So in Forbidden west, the mouse aiming almost TOO good. Even Zero dawn did NOT have raw mouse input -- it was analog stick emulation, and that might sound like a small difference, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ -- I am SO glad Nixxes did not ♥♥♥♥ up mouse input -- in fact, they NAILED it.
The Last of US and God of War (along with most other non Sony ports on PC) should take notes, because this is how EVERY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game should have its controls implemented. Because when you've been using the same 360/cm sensitivity for over 2 decades of gaming, the fact that you can simply hop in a game and NOT either fight with the control settings for hours (♥♥♥♥ YOU Uncharted Collection on PC in particular for making me do this), nor must you force to yourself to unlearn decades of habits -- which I'm not going to do, at least not if I'm paying money for a game.
And I said it already, but the single biggest thing this port has going in its favor is not the graphics, it's not the QOL features, it's raw 1:1 mouse input. So if you've been using mouse and keyboard aiming for years, those years of muscle memory give you a STUPIDLY massive advantage over stick aiming. Like I said, Very Hard is fairly challenging, but it's not even remotely more difficult than any other game on normal or hard using a conroller.
Honestly, the mouse aiming alone makes the PC version of this game make it one of the most satisfying games I've ever played. Combat is pure joy. If you play this game with a controller, you're playing a whole different game, and a MUCH inferior one at that. Don't even bother.
Instead of constantly using concentration to slow down time before each hot, you find yourself going a bit more YOLO into combat -- it's so much fun viscerating eneies' weak spots by firing off those twitchy style FPS precision shots -- the pacing of the combat is quite a bit faster without an over reliance on stick aiming handicaps. You move more too, with a lot more dodging to put yourself in the perfect position to, say, move out of the way of a charging dino, giving you more than enough time to instantly 180 and hit its rear weak spot with as much as ease as popping head sin Counter-Strike or Valorant.
Hell, I don't think I've had this much fun in a shooter, FPS in a while -- online, single player, doesn't matter -- not much comes to mind. Maybe Resident Evil 4 would be the last time I could say that.
Like this guy, I really enjoy the combat in this game. The first five levels were frustrating, so I turned down the difficulty for those, but once I got the hang of things I turned it back up. On Normal, barely any animal can get to me unless it's a Big'n.
Aiming is much harder with the controller for me and, more importantly, so is controlling the camera smoothly. The controller ends up making me motion sick very easily. I could have gotten better at aiming with practice, but I couldn't deal with getting queasy after ten minutes of playing. It was worth waiting for the port.
Like any game you need to aim , the difference from using controller is about precision in miliseconds,Both games in PC feels really nice with mouse and keyboard, you don't need anything else, be it raw input or not, the difference with a controller is night and day
Aiming is much better with mouse but the traveling feeling for me is better with controller. So i use Controller with default aim assist.
