If you're interested in the story, yes.
FW starts with a catchup cutscene which contains major spoilers for ZD.

yes, play it first, so you know the context of what they were after in Forbidden West

If you have it then yes, play Zero Dawn first because Forbidden West is a direct follow on from it, the time lag between them is 6 months and you'll understand far more about the world and Aloy if you play the first game.

Also, its a very good game :D

Yeah definitely play it first. I may even reinstall it and play it myself as I've forgotten a lot of it.

Yes it is a very good game. One of PS Studios gems no doubt. It had a much better reception than FW actually. Try it out. 100%.

Enjoy! I'd love to play it again for the first time and get the slow revelation of what is really going on

Enjoy! Its one of the best story game ever made! So as a tip, play it a bit slow or normal phase and make sure you won't be spoiled by the walk through tutorials in web, play in story mode if its become difficult. :)
Try to watch the (important) cut-scenes. That "I am General Herres"-Speech and the following left me speechless and it won't if you have no idea what the story is about. Great story.

Some audio-files you find are real gems as well, though it would be too much to expect you to listen to every single one.

yes Zero Dawn is a great game

Since you own both, I'd play HZD first.

It has a much better story than HFW, and HFW will make a lot more sense if you play Zero Dawn first. Also, in my opinion the gameplay in HFW is better than HZD, and you might find it hard to go back to HZD if you play Forbidden West first.

Finally, there are some nice quality of life mods for Zero Dawn than haven't yet been ported over to Forbidden West.

Heck yeah. You don't exactly have to play it first but the gameplay is fun, sound design is outstanding and the storyline I feel is wonderful. Playing Horizon for the first time to me was a really cool feeling of uncovering a mysterious thing. I don't wanna spoil it if you haven't played it so I just wanna say play it! You wouldn't regret it.

I would play both so naturally play the first one. Amazing games. Not nearly enough of these high quality games get developed

Try playing forbidden west first because its unplayable for a lot of gamers with constant crashing. Refund it asap.

a few gamers, not a lot of gamers. You would be surprised how little a lot of gamers know about their rig, or how to maximize the rigs gaming performance
