I've been playing Magic The Gathering for 30 years, and even been in tournaments, and I can't figure this game out... hahaha lol. I don't even understand how to place my pieces when entering the game.
Regular battles = use triple strike strategy. From what I discovered computer does not take second move of the same machine into account and makes rookie mistakes while positioning pieces. Let me explain:
Get one mobile and hard hitting piece. Fireclaw or Stormbird are the best. Can be purchased at hunting grounds. Complete set with Longleg and any cheap junk.
1. Use cheap junk buffed by Longleg to target single enemy machine. Override and sacrifice if needed. The goal is to reduce total area covered by enemy machines. Attack until you lose those pieces.
2. Now you have 2 moves + override with your hard hitting piece. Stay just outside of enemy attack zone. Wait for computer to miscalculate, it will eventually place piece next to free high ground "thinking" it is safe. Move (+attack if possible). Move+attack. Override+attack. This is really overpowered combo that will cost you 2HP.
Remember that you still win if you reach 7 points and your last machine dies in the same turn. So do not be afraid to override to get that final kill.
As for the game itself - it is wasted potential. Could be more interesting if pieces were just miniatures of true machines (current design is just ugly, everything looks the same). Maybe some Apex promotion on last line like in chess. And they should have bigger variety of skills. Maybe in Horizon 3 it will get some major overhaul, who knows...
