Ok, i'm on level 47 now but have only collected one of Gaia's subfunctions. I play my own style (leveling first). Possibly my fault
OMG... this one i want to do at last
I typed this out and realized GlowWorm covered it above, but yes, these machines are gated by these quests. Happy hunting!
I did just replay the Aether section to see exactly when the Slitherfang becomes available in the open world. It's after the Kulrut mission, which automatically puts the player into the Cradle of Echos mission, so the Slitherfang becomes available after Cradle of Echos.
The Apex Dreadwing hangs upside down on one of those huge metal tentacles at a beach east of Cauldron CHI and the Tideripper is in the sea off a beach to the west of the same Cauldron - just keep going west over the hills from it until you hit a cove.
Hope that helps anyone trying to get parts early ;)
There should be another unmarked Tideripper, far south of No Mans Land where lake with dam is, on very edge of map. It's more a easter egg thou, since fighting it is... let's say very annoying due to location geometry, distances, weapon range limitations, and rather erratic AI behaviour. If you want to go for that one, you'd want a lot of explosive stuff (javelins and sling) and strong Sharpshooter bow.
