No Slitherfang in PC-version
It must be a bug. There should be 2 Slitherfang areas in the game. Not shown on the map and no snakes in the areas. So it's impossible to upgrade 2 purple weapons about missing parts. Any hints?

It appears to be level dependent. I saw this as well, I had no sites for them but did some main questing and leveled up a bit more and they started to appear.

Ok, i'm on level 47 now but have only collected one of Gaia's subfunctions. I play my own style (leveling first). Possibly my fault :steamhappy:

I am fairly sure that the spawning of The Slitherfangs is gated behind needing to acquire Aether.

(I experienced this as well on PS5 - needing Slitherfang parts, no Slitherfangs spawning - and it's how I was able to conclude that Aether must be completed.)

I just came across my first Slitherfang site last night, still adventuring around looking for the rock ones

There are definitely still multiple Slitherfang sites. But as already mentioned, they are gated behind the Aether quest, although I have no idea why.

Aether has the Slitherfang boss fight, Poseidon has the Tideripper boss fight, and Demeter has the Dreadwing boss fight. I suspect that the idea is that these fights are key events in the player's experience, so those machines don't appear in the wild until the player experiences them in the boss fights. That increases the wow of the boss fight. (I don't know for certain that all three of those are gated behind their quest, but I am pretty sure that the Slitherfang is gated.)

Slitherfangs after Aether, Tiderippers after Poseidon, Dreadwings after Demeter

I typed this out and realized GlowWorm covered it above, but yes, these machines are gated by these quests. Happy hunting!

Yep, I guess it makes sense that the devs wanted us to be intimidated by them, rather than having already beaten them several times in the open world.

I did just replay the Aether section to see exactly when the Slitherfang becomes available in the open world. It's after the Kulrut mission, which automatically puts the player into the Cradle of Echos mission, so the Slitherfang becomes available after Cradle of Echos.

Just to say that I have found the Slitherfangs are gatekept behind the Aether quest too but you CAN find an Apex Dreadwing and a normal Tideripper before doing their quests.

The Apex Dreadwing hangs upside down on one of those huge metal tentacles at a beach east of Cauldron CHI and the Tideripper is in the sea off a beach to the west of the same Cauldron - just keep going west over the hills from it until you hit a cove.

Hope that helps anyone trying to get parts early ;)

There should be another unmarked Tideripper, far south of No Mans Land where lake with dam is, on very edge of map. It's more a easter egg thou, since fighting it is... let's say very annoying due to location geometry, distances, weapon range limitations, and rather erratic AI behaviour. If you want to go for that one, you'd want a lot of explosive stuff (javelins and sling) and strong Sharpshooter bow.

It's frustrating that if your first killings of the slitherfangs in the two spots on the map don't yield an Apex Slitherfang heart, you can't seem to get another shot at it. I set the slitherfang heart as a job, go to one site where it says to get it, but when Aloy gets there it says, "no slitherfang here, go to the other spot," and when she does, it says, "no slitherfang here, go to the other spot," and back and forth.
