Honest question: For people who find Aloy ugly... why?

I mean, think about it: Aloy is essentially living in a society of tribalism, lacking all but the most rudimentary understanding of agriculture, architecture, science, mathematics, finance, medicine, basic infrastructure like plumbing or roads, I could go on, but you get my point -- hell, assuming another industrial revolution happens, her society is centuries, maybe even thousands of years behind ours (despite TECHNICALLY behind set in the future, but that's irrelevant).

My point is, Aloy lives in a world where there is literally ZERO incentive for prioritizing her physical appearance in a positive matter. Aloy does not live in 2024, where attractiveness and success are intertwined enough that self-presentation is incredibly important: looking good gets you far in life, and that requires exercise, eating well, a healthy sense of self worth, genuine confidence, investing in well-fitting and tastefully chosen clothes that fit your body type or complexion, getting your haircut regularly by someone who understand your own unique sense of style and hair type, basic self-grooming like beard trimming (for dues), nail trimming, skincare, regular dental care, attending your yearly physicals with your doc, managing your body weight. wheher thru calorie counting, weekly gym visits, running marathons or 5k's, (or a combination of all three). You think Aloy has time for that ♥♥♥♥? She's busy saving the world, FFS.

She's not gonna be hiring a personal trainer, along with a nutritionist, just so she can show off her ass and abs during beach season (because that kind of body building takes more than just working out and eating healthy). Aloy doesn't budget for skinscare, she doesn't make sure to apply sunscreen in the summer, she doesn't spend hours at a hair salon getting new highlights and a fresh haircut, then going go out shopping in SOHO or Champs-Elysee because NYC and Paris don't have regular flights from Denver anymore, so looking for some fresh new designer clothes to drop thousands of shards on, then get them tailored, just in order to fresh out her look for an upcoming formal work industry event -- that's just out of the question.

It honestly makes me wonder: do a lot pf people consider Aloy ugly because they're applying 21st century beauty standards when judging here? Because in HZD, clothing brands don't spend millions of dollars on marketing campaigns convincing consumers to either suffer FOMO or overpay for crap produced in places solely because workers get paid less there, nor does she follow whatever the latest trending overpaid celebrity influencer or fashion designer is wearing at the Oscars, Grammy's, or whatever random LA hills party they happen to be Instagraming at.

Like, damn, look at the world she lives in. Considering she has nice teeth, decent face structure by just about any metric, she's is in good physical shape, has a charming smile, a sassy and no-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ personality, and to top it off all that she's one of the handful of most capable fighters in existence. Melee, stealth, archery, explosives -- she's got more training and discipline in fighting, enough to make her one of the most accomplished masters of her craft of any human to ever live -- that level of dedication and persistence, discipline, and unshakable attitude is sexy as hell, in my opinion. Even physically, she's got nice legs, she's not overweight, she's not too skinny, and at the risk of sounding like a pervert, the fact that's her upper and lower body are obscenely strong (look at her climbing and running), she's flexible as hell, and her endurance is through the roof. Just sayin'... she probably at least fun as hell in bed!

Anyways, what do y'all think? Is she really "ugly," or have we just been watching too many shows like Game of Thrones where despite the settings everyone looks like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ supermodel, and that's skewed our perception of what people looked like in other time periods. Personally, that's my theory. Anyways, thanks for attending my ted talk. Just a bit of food for thought if you're bored and want something to ponder.

I skimmed through the post but it seems you're saying she's not ugly...but it makes sense for her to look ugly because of her circumstances.

That being said, i don't think she's the issue. You can even use some of the Carja facepaint that looks like makeup to help out.

My problem is the rest of the women in this game. With some very few exceptions, damn they're ugly. Aloy looks like a super model compared to most of them.

Would the game's immersion really have suffered to have more beautiful people?

I always find it weird when some fat guy who never goes to the gym is so opinionated on how make-believe women look. Less attractive women are more relatable to female gamers. Just like fat plumbers are relatable to male gamers.
