Melee combos are infuriating
Baffled by the melee combo system in this game. Even on Story mode, it's beyond difficult to actually chain the combos correctly.

Left Click, Left Click, Pause, Left Click, Hold Left Click, Hold W + G, Release Left Click, Release G, Pause, Left Click, Hold Left Click, G, G, G, Pause, Left Click...

You get the picture. A single mistake in that entire sequence breaks the entire combo. The worst part is that the damage output is still nothing compared to the plethora of non-melee options at your disposal. I am begging you, for the next game please assign melee combos to someone who didn't play Street Fighter for 25 years.

I dunno, the combo challenges were kinda fun.

Doesn't excuse how ♥♥♥♥ the entire system is though. Melee does next to no damage and enemies will randomly interrupt you no matter how much you vary your combos.

I have zero interest in melee after seeing all the stupid combo options. Yeah, lets just make every option available to try to make as many people as happy as possible. My melee consists of a tear arrow to the head to remove the helmet and a precision to the head to finish the enemy off.

I think the major problem with melee is that its telemetry is too weak. Glowing spear and little Audio effect are easy to miss or misinterpret.

If you specc Aloy correctly, melee can be more powerful than arrow shots. Melee is really well done in this game, took me awhile to figure it out but when I *got* it, it was amazing.

take the time to learn it, before hating on it. Also, invest in a controller. kb/m is terrible for this game.

KB/M works fine. It’s not an input accessory issue. It’s having to memorize a ridiculous number of input sequences with no ability to clearly define what length of time is considered a pause, a hold etc.

Seems like a skill issue to me. You honestly only need to memorize 3 combos: block breaker, Nora's combo attack, and armor breaker. All 3 are easy.

- block breaker: r1, r1, r2
- nora attack: r1, r1, r1, r2
- armor breaker: r1, PAUSE (wait until Aloy's spear tip lights up), r1, r1, r1, r1

Legend:
r1 = light attack
r2 = heavy attack

Finally finished them all. Found some similar comments that talked about the spear lighting up and various visual indicators. Beat them much faster with that advice. Still, never again lol.

Melee is awesome against human enemies, as well as certain machines. It's also quite fun, when you understand the system.

Nobody needs a controller.. nothing beats a mouse in terms of aiming and movement.
Enough said.

it's not an optimal method for playing HFW. i like kb/m too, but sometimes you have to realize that controllers are better for some games than others.

Nah, the golden path in Forbidden West is good but all the side content only varies from trash tier to mediocre. It's why i liked the first game way more. FW to me so far has been a 6/10 game, the platforming is complete jank, the combo system is complete jank that 9 times out of 10 doesn't recognise your button input in melee pit challenges, etc, and the machine combat is terrible. It's as bloated as the Nu AssCreed games but with worse combat.

At this point i can't wait to be finished with it so i can play Ghost instead, i probably won't even bother doing all the crappy machine strike matches. If it wasn't for the main story, presentation, and character performances i would've uninstalled the game 20 hours in.

I don't see any problems with using mouse and keyboard here.
Maybe you can explain what you mean?
It could be because i play over 22 years with mouse and keyboard and only played on controller on the ps1 and 2.

I copy/pasted/printed that. I gave up on melee, got too complicated. I can however, without too much trouble, get your suggestions working for me. Thanks.

lol I ultimately did something similar. Just printed out the exact sequence of button, put them in front of me, followed them and that's how I beat the arena challenges.
