The game still has issues with LoD
Since launch, ive been playing at maxed out 4k, on a 4080, and 32GB of RAM, no bottlenecks here, yet with any settings, the game can sometimes have awful LoD issues, try it yourself, go out into the main West side of the map, and FT back to the front Plainsong campfire, turn around and look at the trees, very low poly. The game also has LoD issues in the Daunt, with the surrounding mountains, Direct Storage in or out does not affect this

The game still has issue in general,I hope NIxxes doesn't drop out of support considering they are working to fix the problems on GOT

Yep and sadly the most annoying things are graphics/performance related. LOD popping, flickering clouds & SSR, flickering shadows caused by DLSS/DLAA, lighting artifacts on utaru people, terrible CPU bottleneck in Burning shores and stuff and stuff and stuff...

pretty much, LOD seems the worst

Resurrecting this thread cause this is still an issue. We need to send support tickets about this cause it's unacceptable like we shouldn't be just letting them get away with this shoddy crap.

Yep and oddly enough Nixxes fixed this in Zero Dawn remaster.
Ok, I just found this thread after losing my mind wondering what the hell was happening. I saved after getting into Plainsong last night and closed out. Came back in to play tonight, turned around from the campfire and BAM, trees that look like a smeary watercolor painting.

This mod helps a little with bugged LODs: https://www.nexusmods.com/horizonforbiddenwest/mods/100
Distant objects still remain low poly, but no more 2D trees 100m away from camera

I'm not sure this video is valid. I CAN reproduce the washed out textures on the Pyramid building BUT when I fly closer to it and get back to the corner office and look at it again, the textures are as sharp as in the PS5 side of that video. Looks like Aiming + Concentration Zoom does not load the better textures, you have to be closer to the building for real to get the high-res textures loaded. I have no PS5 so I can't test if it's the same there.

And I can't reproduce any of the mentioned problems in Plainsong. Fast traveling there from the spot in the video - that's as far away west as you can get - there are no washed out textures, no low polygon trees. Everything is fully loaded and sharp.

Direct Storage was mentioned here. That works ONLY on NVMe SSDs. Not on SATA SSDs and certainly not on HDDs. I have the game on an NVMe drive and Direct Storage is active and I have rather few pop-ins and not really any LOD issues. Pretty much the same with the Zero Dawn remaster.

Low quality assets pop in and out randomly. It's not just lower draw distance. Most people don't notice this. Just like most people don't notice other graphical bugs and artifacts. Also where did you read that directstorage works only with nvme?

Here's a quote from Microsoft: "DirectStorage is a feature intended to allow games to make full use of high-speed storage (such as NVMe SSDs) that can can deliver multiple gigabytes a second of small (eg 64kb) data reads with minimal CPU overhead."
https://github.com/microsoft/DirectStorage

SATA SSD are MUCH too slow for that, not to mention HDDs. The requirements for Direct Storage are an NVMe drive (or something even faster), DirectX 12 and a DX12 GPU that supports Direct Storage and at least Windows 10 version 1909.

You can check which drives support it with the Windows GameBar under settings (cogwheel icon), System information. There it lists all drives and if the system supports Direct Storage in general and on which drive(s). For me both Win10 as well as the game are on fast NVMe drives that support it.

As for pop-ins, yes there are some but it's not a big deal and mostly notable late in the game when you can fly high and fast across the map. I NEVER noticed any pop-outs. Neither now, with a 16GB RTX 4070 Ti Super, nor originally, when the game came out, with my old 8GB RTX 2070.

i should of made that video better, if you look down at the quen camp it shows lower quality and missing objects compared to ps5.
if you use nukems forbidden west cheat menu, putting the LOD slider to .666 was enough to match ps5 without touching the highquality zone, and medium quality zone.

Doesn't mean SATA SSDs don't support the tech at all.

Checked, there's no system info tab. Tried googling supported drives list, found nothing.

Then you need to look better or wear glasses. No offence intended. People with super expensive top tier hardware reported this bug several times and I myself noticed a lot of visible popping and straight up non-loaded assets i.e. blurry 2D sprites and low poly geometry. Disk cache mod from Nexus decreases the quantity of low poly models to some extent. Take your bird and land on the top of a satellite dish where Utaru tribe settled. Look around and you'll see a lot of ugly low res sprite trees at distance.
If you're curious my specs are 3060 12gb, 8700k 4,6ghz, 2x8gb 3466 cl17 and a up to 2,7gb/s nvme. Settings are all high or maximum.

Does it decrease performance or put more load on CPU?
