Can't control Aloy at all
Having an issue that is making the game unplayable.

Things work fine when I first start up the game but shortly thereafter I lose the ability to control Aloy's movements with my keyboard. When I try to stop running or walking, she doesn't stop and none of my keystrokes work. At that point, all I can do is restart the game. Toggle run and toggle walk are both off but I've tried both ways and there's no difference. I've tried 2 different keyboards and searched online for help to no avail.

Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks.

wireless keyboard or wired. YOU could be losing the connection.

Almost make me think the program is loosing focus. Try setting the game to exclusive full screen in the launcher.

Keyboard is wired.

Do you have a controller of any sort plugged in? If you do unplug it.

Tried changing from full screen to exclusive full screen. No difference and the graphics looked bad so I switched back.

No controller. I'm a hardcore keyboard and mouse guy.

Might have 'dirt' in the keyboard / mouse, something that gives u a sticky key or keys.

2 different and pretty clean keyboards both behave the same.

UPDATE:

Still having this issue, but I've managed to make some improvement by reducing the size of my keyboard buffer in the registry. The parameter is KeyboardDataQueueSize located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services->kbdclass->Parameters. It was originally set at 100. Through trial and error, I've reduced it to 20.

As a result, runaway Aloy incidents are less frequent and I've at times been able to regain control when they do occur. Still hoping for a final resolution to this, but I'm glad that for now I can at least play the game.

Maybe plug your mouse and keyboard into another usb port?

Use controller instead.

This reads like something's interrupting the application's own input and causing held-down keypresses to queue up.

When this seems to be a rare situation that I've never seen anyone else have, it seems more and more like there's something on your system interfering in this situation.

If you have then, try turning off any macro-assisting on the keyboard or game-assisting applications that can be triggered by keypress.

(TRIVIA: In Windows 11, there's no "exclusive full screen" anymore. It's only emulated in Windows 11 for backwards compatibility. It'll even change the display's resolution and minimize the window when losing focus, but it's still a borderless window. If you have Windows 11, go with the borderless window if it's an option. Emulations can be wonky in any situation, and nothing's gained with the emulated exclusive full screen anymore in Windows 11. Why Microsoft abandoned exclusive full screen is beyond my understanding of the new DX/Vulkan-wrapper at this time.)

running into the same problem--it's all fun and games until you're in the cauldron and suddenly you can't stop running forward/no other key or mouse actions are responding. Usually no more than 5 seconds at a time, but since install a few days ago we're probably looking at around 20 incidents? So definitely a frustration you're not alone in!

Can you give examples of macro-assisting and game-assisting apps? Would in-game overlays and apps that support programmable keyboards/mice be in that group? Asking because I shut all of that down after reading your post and it seemed to noticeably help. Specifically, I stopped in-game overlays for Steam and NVidia and background software for my Corsair K95 RGB Platinum keyboard and Razer Naga Trinity mouse.

Look for iCue software and turn it off or better yet uninstall it.

RGB software is a curse
