Extremely long load times??
Anyone else getting this issue? Seems to hang pretty hard on shader compilation. Yes, the game is on an M.2 SSD (Samsung 970 EVO). Prior to the latest 'hotfix' this issue never occurred.

Same here, it used to take seconds to get into the game. Now it'll take 5-10 minutes. All this time the CPU is sitting there at 100% precompiling shaders. What happened?

interesting, i'm running this on a HDD and loading isn't an issue.
FFox Mar 25, 2024 @ 2:32pm
Same HDD here loading isnt an issue buuuuuuuuuuuut it does some weird stuff, like it wants to compile the shaders after re-loading a game or starting a new one without closing the game, and once I've got a black screen during a mid cutscene and it was interurpted by the shader compilation AGAIN. So clearly this needs to be adressed. Yes, the game as the typical "just released port" issues.

Nope. The game loads in a minute or so (From clicking Play)

I have the game installed on a Samsung T7 4TB SSD and I'm using the latest Proton Hotfix (but the problem is also on Proton Experimental and Proton Stable and Proton 9 Beta), the loading times are brutal - we're talking about 5-10+ minutes to first get into the game, though getting to the main menu and loading screen is very quick. The weird thing is, I don't think it's stuck compiling shaders for me because my CPU (R9 5900x) usage is only like 20%.

I think from the point I load the game, to being able to move around, takes less than 5 seconds. So.. No idea.

Idk it takes about 10 seconds to get to the main menu after launch and any loading screen as well, in my experience.
Yes - it takes about three minutes to load at start. I'm running an AMD 3800X with an Nvidia 3080.

I thought about posting how incredibly fast these load times are, like they are suspicously fast.

Perhaps it's storage related? That is more likely the issue than your CPU.

7700x / 7900xtx but I have the game on a WD Black SN850 gen4 drive in the proper CPU lane slot on the mobo.

A lot of times the load time is like just barely a few seconds.

edit: A 970 evo is decent but not really very fast compared to newer gen drives. But definitely not the cause of the difference of your load time vs mine. It's something else that is up.

It's definitely not the drive because I've got it installed on a 970 pro and it loads in seconds.

Given it happened after the patch I'd try verifying the game files first and if that doesn't fix it uninstalling and reinstalling.

someone else said this game shares a similar problem to those of skyrim and fallout 3-4. The more stuff you have in your inventory, the longer the game takes to load. Someone suggested selling all the ♥♥♥♥ in your stash possible and claimed the game loaded faster.

it's like 5-10 seconds just to wait for the logos to finish after pressing play until the main menu of the game pops up. 5-10 seconds to load and by GPU and SSD's are like 5-6 years old.

Try changing the size of the virtual memory size.

In my case it is 16384 MB.
Initial size and Maximum size.

However, I do have 32 gig of RAM.

----------------------------------------------------

Clear Nvidia Shader Cache

Nvidia Control Panel
Manage 3D Settings
Shader Cache Size
Disabled -> Apply

Restart PC

Windows + R
%LocalAppData%
Nvidia folder
GLCache folder
Ctrl + A and delete

AppData -> LocalLow -> Nvidia -> PerDriverVersion -> DXCache
Ctrl + A and delete

--------------------------------------------------------

Disk Clean-up

Start -> type cleanup
DirectX-Shader-Cache

--------------------------------------------------------

Now Re-enable Shader Cache in Nvidia Control Panel
I have set 10 GB.

It might be worth a try.

Could something be done about the shader complication as it mucks up the game big style. I have a very high end machine but still really long loading times of the shaders.
Praesi Apr 4, 2024 @ 9:29am
Same SSD, no loading times to speak off.
