jumping to grapplepoint mid climb
I'm probably missing something, but how do you make Aloy jump towards the next grappling point?

I've had quite a few occassions where you have to follow a climbing path to reach the next ledge, but partway through there are sections where she refuses to jump in the correct direction or latch on to a new hook.

It's not as if these are long jumps, often just a bit above where her hands are reaching. Yet she jumps to the side or flies past the handle without grabbing. And I'm not talking about grappling hook sections, just the normal platforming up a tower like in the opening act.

I'm playing with mouse & keyboard.

If you hold the movement key in the direction you want to climb, you will see Aloy reach towards the next handhold. That is the signal to you that Aloy can reach that handhold. At which point, just jump i.e. SPACE.

There are some climbing sequences where you need to "jump off", either directly behind you or to one side. That is the CTRL key - just CTRL by itself to jump behind you, or hold the left or right movement key and then CTRL to jump off to left or right.

You can actually jump at a wall you can't climb and when you hit the wall touch CTRL and you will jump off the wall with greater than normal jump height. There are a couple of places where this mechanic is needed, though thankfully not many.

That's the problem I'm having, I see her reach up, but instead she still jumps sideways. For now I've just connected my ps4 controller to complete the climbing sections. With it, the climbing goes smooth. But the moment I use my keyboard again, it feels like her aim is off.

Wonder if I messed up a setting somewhere.

I had that issue but I think I found what causes this. There are a few different "jumping shortkeys" and 2 of them seem to not work properly if on the same key. For me I had "Jumping to support (climbing)" and "Jumping/Holding on" both on space, and when I was trying to jump from a support to another (sideway or while climbing up), everytime I'd just jump behind "assassin's creed style" or randomly on a side to my death x) After removing the "Jumping to support (climbing)" key and only using the "Jumping/Holding on" one on the spacebar, it started to work again properly and now I can climb as it's supposed to be. I'm not 100% sure if it's the actual solution for all scenarios as I just started the game, but I did notice an improvement while tweaking around the different jumping keybinds while testing them on a safe jump.

thx, going to try that later. Don't have access to the game right now, so I'll give an update if this works.

update:
This does indeed seem to work, by keeping jump/grapple jump on 1 key and the other jump on another key. Wonder why they felt the need to split it up when on the controller they all work from 1 button?

I've been trying to make a specific jump with mouse/keyboard (top of mountain above the base) and it has been impossible. Switching to controller made the jumping much easier. Thanks for the suggestion!

My precision with aiming and firing suck with the controller so I guess I will start switching back and forth....

IF the grapple point is shown as reachable (it has a special, distinct symbol over it), then just press the jump button twice in rapid succession just like if you were standing on the ground. Aloy will automatically detach from her current position and grapple to it.
