DLSS flicker
With DLSS set to Quality, I often notice flicker in cutscenes, mostly on people's clothes or equipment (DLAA has the same issue). It's very distracting. Switching to TAA or XeSS fixes the issue.

Unfortunately, TAA has a large performance cost (since it's rendering 100%) and XeSS doesn't look as good as DLSS.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon. TAA is the best compromise for now.

Right. I'm asking that DLSS is an NVIDIA creation. How do they not have 3.6 as part of the latest 551.86 drivers?

re: "Deep learning super sampling (DLSS) is a family of real-time deep learning image enhancement and upscaling technologies developed by Nvidia that are exclusive to its RTX line of graphics cards,"

I don't feel comfortable downloading 3.6 from non-official sources.

Is 3.6 a "beta" release that these sites are hosting?

This issue appears to be related to DLSS upscaling. I am running at 4K with the Upscale Method turned off, the problem appears to have disappeared.

Here are the updated display settings:

- Dynamic Resolution Scaling: Off
- Anti-Aliasing: DLAA
- Upscale Method: Off
- Upscale Quality: Off
- DLSS Frame Generation: Off

Although I still see random texture flickering issues, it's significantly better than the previous glitches.

I hope the devs and NVIDIA sort out this stuff soon. :-/

Sadly the glitches are back with DLSS off. 😕

That’s not how it works really the DLL isn’t supplied by the driver for the game. The nvngx_dlss.dll file is directly in the game files. Sometimes a game comes out where they have had a newer version of the file that has been supplied by Nvidia. I believe the latest version 3.6.0, came with a recent update to Naraka: Bladepoint. Someone just started making a repository of the versions on TechPowerUp so every time a new version is found it gets uploaded there.

Sometimes devs use much older versions of the file that they obviously had at the start of development and don’t bother to update. In this instance you can manually swap to newer versions with varying results.

Sometimes, mainly online competitive games, trying to update the DLL won’t work and will not be accepted by the game. Probably as an anti cheat measure as you could possibly tamper with it as a way to inject cheats.

It’s not 100% safe, technically the file could have been tampered with before being updated to the site but generally that site has a reputation for safe downloads and nothing is completely 100% safe on the internet. I’ve been downloading and swapping DLSS versions from techpowerup for a while now myself.

Ah, okay. The developer got lazy and developed their game with a DLL that is so old that it runs poorly with the latest NVIDIA drivers. However, that's the version they launched. NVIDIA could have contacted them and said, "Hey, we recommend you ship this game with DLSS 3.6 if you want to support upscaling and frame generation."

Or NVIDIA did reach out, and the developers responded, "We don't have time for QA. Let's launch and let the peasants our customers do the work for us."

No not exactly. They weren’t using a super old version it launched with 3.5.10 which was the one just before 3.6.0. Generally there aren’t drastic differences between versions unless we’re talking about the difference between v1 v2 and v3. I’m not sure sure what changes have been made with 3.6.0 but prob just small bug fixes and changes. I did try 3.6.0 and did not see any difference in performance or visual quality.

Btw a game made with 2.0 versions of DLSS can be updated to 3.0 versions of the DLL but a game with 1.0 you cannot.

Versions 2.0 and 3.0 work very similarly accept 3.0 introduced frame generation tech and added DLSS presets that the developers can use. You can use programs like Special K, DLSSTweaks or Nvidia Profile Inspector to change these presets. These presets work better for different situations or were made in mind for specific quality versions, DLAA or frame generation modes.

Swapping to 3.6.0 unfortunately does not fix the texture flickering caused by enabling DLSS or DLAA though.

Grabbed the dll and placed in the game's folder.

Definitely did not fix the issue. Actually made things worse.

DLAA: On
DLSS Upscaling: Quality
DLSS Frame Generation: On

Unfortunately I am now past the two hour refund window. Really annoyed 80% of the two hours was spent on this this stuff instead of actual game play. :(

Yeah it’s really unfortunate the game was released with this bug, you can try reporting it in a ticket. There is a pinned thread in directions for that. I might but haven’t gotten around to it yet though others might have already and they might be working on a fix that will be released soon. Hopefully they are.

I thought perhaps I couldn't mix the older Frame Gen DLL (nvngx_dlssg.dll) 3.5.10 with nvngx_dlss.dll 3.6, so I turned off Frame Generation. It was a dramatic improvement, but the issue is still present (just not as terribly with Frame Gen on).

This game is all kinds of broken, for me. :(

I submitted a bug report through https://www.playstation.com/en-us/horizon/support/. Included my video recording in the report so they can see what I see.
Happened to me at Plain Song, white flashes on npc's clothing. There's a couple of other threads about the same problem

I'm not using any kind of upscale tech so it's not an issue with DLSS

Yeah I saw someone in this thread say it can still happen without DLSS but it happens more frequently with it enabled.

😩
Well, remember when i was playing ac4 at 480p (windowed) and barely reaching 25 fps. Thats unplayable, not reaching over 100fps at 4k with some flickers :D Jokes asides, I have 0 problems with the port simnilar specs, i513600k and 4090 here. Not sure but dlss maybe has something to do with cpu ? see you still at 8th gen with 4090 xD

Becuase those are pop-outs, not flickers. It has absolutely nothing to do with what upscalers do.

It's not the CPU and it's not "some flickers." It's full-blown graphic distortions, glitches, and artifacts.

It also has nothing to do with the dimensions. Here's 1080p Window mode:

I'm sorry to say this but these glitches are most likely not linked to the game itself or the DLSS/DLAA integration. Such issues usually occur when the graphics driver installation is corrupted or the GPU is defective, e.g. the VRAM is not handling things properly. You should check your GPU with stress testing programs like FurMark or 3DMark. Maybe start with completely wiping your graphics driver using DDU in safe mode.
