heh... I have exactly the opposite question:
"Is there a flashlight? How do I turn it on? I just entered a dark dungeon..."

You don't. It's the annoying fashion of modern games that it's automatic.

uh, there's lots of modern games that let you control the flashlight

Wish it could be turned on and off too, diving in some areas left me in the dark. But it seem to be a trend to make it automatic so players are not complaining about dark rooms, and not knowing they can turn on a flashlight

It is automatic but it is not consistent. Aloy will turn on the flashlight in a dark room and then turn it off again when you move to a side room which is just as dark.

I never said all games, just that it's a fashion.

Where do the light come from though? It seems like it's coming from Aloy's forehead, just like a miner's hat, but there's nothing on her. :octaviadisassociate:

They've could at least made it more convincing. :cozyspaceengineersa:

What do you mean there is nothing on her? Have you forgotten that she wears a focus? If phone manufacturers today have figured out that a flashlight function is useful on a phone, surely the focus manufacturers of tomorrow have figured out that a flashlight is useful on a focus.

Yeah, my bad words. :pooplaugh: What I meant was that it doesn't look like there's a light source (in her focus or anything near her face) that emits a flashlight compatible to the one that lightens our way in the dark areas of the game.

Maybe the devs tried something but shadows may got a bit annoying. Who knows?

Thought it was on the piece for her head, given when she went to the West. Or maybe I remember it wrong. But it was rarely used any way, but not on the places it was most useful

If they really wanted to, they could have put a flashlight toggle on the weapon wheel. So lack of controller buttons isn't the reason.

As for where the light is coming from... probably her focus.
If they really wanted to they could have given her nightvision, since the hud is supposed to be from the focus. But... that would ruin the color palette.

It's not a fashion it's a failing. So many dark places in Forbidden west. No torch is pain in the sit upon.

Cheers.

Are game designers, players? Curious. A light in the dark is a simple need. No see, no do.
No thought put into it.
