I managed to solve it by trial and error. It appears that, even if you're not cheating, having more than 5 Health Potions (the genuine potions, not herbal healing) can cause the game to remain stuck on a black screen. It seems to be more of an accident that it also occurs if you DON'T cheat items into your inventory.
Can also be happening when an item-count exceeds a certain amount. you have to reduce the numer of those items to their normal max count.
This simply cannot work.
I believe there might be a misunderstanding of the problem here.
It's as if you're suggesting to use the workbench to unstuck the workbench (which causes black screens) to upgrade your bow while using another bow (which you wont have at this early state of the game).
Even if it were to work, you'd need another bow. However, in this early stage (INTRO-PART, like a tutorial), you can't do that because you don't have more than one bow, and you can't leave the area since you're locked in until you use the workbench.
It's like searching for a needle in a haystack. This method only works if the error is truly tied to one of these... recounting the solutions in the video... 19?!?! Solutions?
Like: "Try these 19 solutions to adress the ONE issue".
While this video may solve the crashing problem for loading the game or on startup, it doesn't address the specific errors occurring at the workbench. I can't help but feel someone is more interested in garnering views for their video than genuinely trying to assist. I've noticed this video being posted many times in discussions... perhaps a bit too many times. It seems to be recommended for almost any crashing problem posted in the discussion section.
just give it a try - if you have not done already anyway
are you still on win xx < 11 ?
As mentioned above, it IS the potion amount causing the issue, not any drivers. In certain cases, it's possible to acquire potions above their maximum amount - when this happens, the bug occurs.
There's no use in reiterating it, especially with advice like "remove all drivers", "update your drivers", "reinstall", "verify game in Steam", and so on...
There's always a maximum amount for any potions, which you can see by opening the crafting menu in the inventory in the lower-left corner, similar to crafting smoke bombs or other items there.
If the total potion amount exceeds the maximum amount of any potion you can hold, it results in a black screen on the workbench.
No graphical issue.
No driver issue.
This bug has already been reproduced, and its cause has been confirmed...
No, unfortunately, there are no savegame editors for this game.
However, take a look at potential trainers for the game. I’ve found a few online that specifically have an option to reduce the number of potions and other items.
Make sure to save beforehand just to be safe.
I won’t recommend any specific ones to avoid violating Steam’s TOS or the developers’ policies, but you should be able to find some fairly easily if you’re familiar with general Google searches.
