Game is crashing on Shader compilation.
Newest Driver installed, Verified files and all that good stuff. It actually worked once but When i closed the game to verify it wasn't a fluke it crashed again.

I9-14900k
RTX 4080
32GB DDR5 RAM
Game on Nvme 2TB

Anyone had any luck with this issue?

This is what worked for me. Open nVidia Control Panel. Click on Manage 3D Settings. Find the Shader Cache Size setting and set it to Disabled, then click apply. Hit WIN+R key and type in:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and hit enter.

In the folder that it opens up, select everything and delete it. You will get some dialog that says cannot delete, blah blah, This is just Windows stopping you from deleting anything important, just (continue) skip that stuff and let it finish.

When done, re-open nVidia Control panel again and set your Shader Cache Size setting to Driver Default, click apply and boom, you should be good to go. Hope this helps!

Didnt work. BIOS update also didnt work. Out of curiousity, do any of yall use the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) mobo? Trying to rule out as much as possible.

I have the no WiFi version of that board, 32GB 3600 RAM and a 5800X and the shaders compiled for me in about 30 seconds without issue. It did max out all 16 threads to 100% so I imagine any system/memory instability could rear it's head because it's almost like a stress test

There is a random issue with 13900s, 14900s and mobos that have PL2 power set to 4095W, so practically unlimited, and they overdrive the CPU to an unstable region. Limiting to 253W can solve the issue.

This is True but a lot of people having this issue are on AMD CPU's I think its safe to say is the game or the drivers.

yes i can confirm, this helped me too. windows 8 compatibility helped me in many UE5 games, even with "out of video memory error".

The compatibility mode to Windows 8 allowed me to get past the main menu and build sharers. Intro scene and entered the game and began to pick plants then got the insufficient video memory message again (was getting this prior to switching to Windows 8 compatibility but could not get past main menu w/out crash). My system specs are what I consider top of the line and my page file is 256GB to 512 GB. I'm running the latest Game Ready Drivers 551.86, verified game integrity files. My machine specs are as follows:

ASUS Dark Hero Z790 (All Intel chipset drives up to date)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K (32 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 131072MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 130780MB RAM
Page File: 14528MB used, 512000MB available
Running 4 NVME Gen4 4TB Drives
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
Display Memory: 89531 MB
Dedicated Memory: 24142 MB
Shared Memory: 65389 MB
Current Mode: 5120 x 1440 (32 bit) (240Hz)

Quick Follow-Up just played for about 45 minutes w/no additional changes by launching via GeForce Experience (Scanned for new games, found Horizon, Optimized, Launched). This is in Windows 8 compatibility mode after increasing the size of Page-file to specs above.....hope it stays stable. I'm also monitoring CPU temp as I play to look for spikes, so far I have stayed around 69c using AIO watercooled system.

Thank you!

This has worked for me and allowed the game to launch. I had some tearing even with Gsync so i forced V-sync with Nvidia Panel which resolved this issue. i have played for around 1.5 hours and not had any issues. CPU and GPU temps are stable. Averaging 130fps on Very high settings. DLSS and FG are on.

There is an update to the game now for the controller issue. Good to see patches coming quickly.

Ur on the right track, if win 8 compatibility works , now then try lower the cpu frequency to 5500 , it might solve the problem, apparently it’s the problem with 13900 and 14900 as the default frequency being too high
Photonboy Mar 23, 2024 @ 10:21am
Lower the CPU frequency?
I'm aware that this MAY fix CPU instability in theory, but anybody with those Intel CPU's should simply run a CPU stress test because if that passes it's NOT the issue. If it fails, then you know you've got to mess with CPU settings to get stability sorted.

If you've had that CPU for a while and are only unstable in THIS game then it's probably not the CPU but everybody should run a CPU and System Memory stress test anyway.

CPU-> Maybe just run Furmark 2's "CPU Burner" and/or Cinebench.

DDR4/5-> You should also do at least one full pass of "Memtest86" (boot to USB) after that.

Keep in mind CPU instability depends on a lot more than just what CPU you have. What MOTHERBOARD you have, the BIOS update, the settings you applied etc.

TLDR: Did a CPU stress show errors?
YES-> investigate further
NO-> not the issue

I figured it was something to do with Direct Storage so I transferred the game to a SATA SSD and now it's working perfectly.
Daedhart Mar 25, 2024 @ 7:41pm
Never heard back from Sony. Didnt even open a ticket, it was more like submitting feedback rather than asking for support. Very annoying...

After getting frustrated and dropping this, I came back today with a fresh mind to do some more testing. Saw a Reddit thread with some more suggestions. Tried a few things, but did eventually get this working by uninstalling and reinstalling on my C drive. Kinda irritating considering this is a freaking 120GB game, but I was able to free up enough space to fit it.
RodroG Mar 26, 2024 @ 3:21am
Your UEFI/BIOS default/stock config is likely to blame here. Most mobo vendors (for recent AMD and Intel CPU platforms) are using out-of-specs Long Duration Power and Current Limit values (Unlimited, 4096 W/A) resulting in potential system instability and game crashing issues on DX12 games during shader compilation and oodle-like decompression tasks. By the way, the issue may also occur during Cinebench workloads and Prime stress test runs.

You can try different unofficial workarounds to prevent the instability problem (the Windows compatibility tweaks may work). However, I'd recommend setting your current Long Duration Power and Current Limit values according to your Intel (or AMD) CPU product official specs sheet to ensure system stability in most workloads and DX12 gaming scenarios.
