Surround Sound Issue
I have the Arena 9 5.1 speakers and in this game the surround sound does not work properly. It appears to be playing out of the FL and RL speakers 90% and the other 10% is out of the center. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Changes TV. not default.
I thought that fixed it but you hear dialog and turn around it doesn't come from rear speakers correctly. This is a hard to solve problem as it maybe Windows or Nvidia I have been fighting with windows for watching movies for a long time with Dolby Atmos for a long time. But some say this is a issue with other games as well so it may not soley be on this game,
I know what you mean. same in here. From the beginning, the sound quality is quite poor. However, once you've progressed to the open-world section, there's a noticeable improvement in sound quality. Nonetheless, the vocal audio is still problematic, being emitted solely from the front speakers. Despite these issues, the sound effects related to machines, nature, animals and other aspects are executed impressively. It's worth noting that this problem isn't unique to this game; many new games seem to struggle with sound design. In my experience, these audio issues are often due to the game's sound design rather than a problem with my setup or your setup.

I figured out a solution finally before starting the game right click the system tray and select 5.1 surround sound then start the game and load your save. Then press the windows key go to the system tray and select Dolby Atmos or DTSX also I have generic selected in audio settings in game sound sounds correct with audio working over head.

Did this resolve the issue with the dialogue? Note that to utilize Dolby Atmos, the Dolby Atmos app is required

I would recommend that you set the audio in game to TV and the dialog seems to be a bit better. But one thing that was very apparent was hearing birds and other sounds around you. And yes you are correct I have both Dolby Atmos and DTSX plugins meaning the apps. To me when the audio isn't correct it seems to me that the channels aren't being spit correctly and they're all being combined maybe due to audio compression. But doing what I recommended in the last post did seem to correct the problem and may work with other games. To be honest getting Dolby Atmos to work properly in Windows is a major chore and have only found one media app that uses it correctly and that even takes a bit of modding to work correctly.

Have the same issue. I use Logitech G633 which has surround sound on the Logitech G Hub app. Works perfectly fine on the Dolby atmos setting with other games but with this it doesn’t affect it whatsoever? Audio is not surround sound. Hopefully they come out for a fix for this soon.

Working fine here with a Denon AVR (7.1.4) connected via HDMI from an Nvidia GPU and with Dolby Atmos for Home Theater enabled in Windows.

I see mention of USB audio devices here. USB audio devices sometimes do weird stuff to imitate surround systems so they can process the audio using their own software (ex: stereo headphones appearing as 7.1 speakers in mmsys.cpl); that's could be confusing the game. Regardless, open mmsys.cpl and configure speakers for your device to ensure they're correct. If not correct, audio can be missing.

P.S. You only need to pay for the Dolby app if using headphones. If using an HDMI AV receiver, the AV receiver is your Dolby license.

For watching Blu-ray rips from PC, Dolby Atmos just streams over HDMI (I use MPC-BE to play MKVs, View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> Audio Decoders -> Audio decoder configuration -> Pass-through TrueHD). For games, it is necessary to have the AVR connected with HDMI, then "Dolby Atmos for Home Theater" will be available to select in mmsys.cpl or Windows sound settings.

First select Dolby Atmos for Home Theater in Windows, then launch the game. After launching the game, my AVR shows "Dolby Atmos" on its display. When games do not support spatial audio, the AVR will only display 'multi channel in'.
i stopped playing immediately on my logitech headset, gotten so use to using a g633 with dolby surround that any game not using it and just playing stereo just sounds wrong, like the sound stage is right in my ears and not around me. Gonna refund it in 2 weeks if they don't fix the lack of g hub surround sound fix.

You do what I do for watching movies in dolby Atmos try the madvr plugin and setting it in MPC-BE Video/Video Renderer.

I'm having the same issue. I have the wonderful, THX Certified, Logitech 5.1 Surround System for my PC. I just finished my playthrough of Zero Dawn with incredible immersion through the speakers, then started up Forbidden West and Aloy's initial dialog was like a whisper. I then cut the music volume down to 50% and still I'm having a hard time hearing the dialog. Really wish I knew how to fix this other than the whole "You should just wear headphones!".... I prefer not to roast my head, and I like hearing what else is going on in my home.

Everything is fine with me, but there is no bass

I tried without restart, does it have to be restarted?

I am having the same Logitech Z906 Surround system hooked to a Creative Sound Blaster Z sound card and 5.1 works correctly as it does in Zero Dawn... I don't have any fake "Surround" Emulation from windows though.. (Spatial Audio stuff is disabled in Control Panel on the sound card).

YES, Zero Dawn works perfectly
