Because a good character is one you try to relate to, so any drastic deviances such as orientation could conflict with that and you no longer want to relate to them. In fact, it just becomes a shame that a potentially cool character was ruined.
Can you imagine all the super-hero fans if they make Batman or Superman a transsexual?
This goes hand-in-hand with how people like certain celebrities, but the moment they find out that said celebrity supports a politician which they hate, then their fondness towards that celebrity diminishes.
It's a psychological thing and that is why it makes a difference regardless if it is a game or not.
The player makes an explicit choice. If the player does not choose to have the main character engage in a relatively minor physical interaction with an NPC, then nothing happens, and the main character does not exhibit any more orientation than existed in the first game (i.e. "none").
I see lots of angst and anger about something that ... DOES NOT EXIST. No one is forc ...
Wait! Stop! Slowly turn around (literally). Do you see a person standing behind you, with a gun pointed at your head, either forcing you to play this game, or forcing you to play this game in some particular way?
No? No such person is there, forcing you to do something?
Huh.
Imagine that.
Nobody forcing you.
Right now....but that is how it starts, it will slowly become no choice at all.
Very few romance stories build it up well anymore, its always suddenly at the end....but this one seems pretty well done, i hate it when it suddenly becomes a thing and i am like, where did that happen? you know? But when its done right, you can see it before it happens.
like She'ra Princesses of power, Adora and Katra, i saw that a mile away.....it built up well and the emotion felt real, but sadly, not all shows are well done in the romance department.
Instead, I'd highly advise most of you to learn to respect each other's differences (i.e., skin colour, sexual orientation, different religion, cultural upbringing, etc. etc.) and in turn expect those people to also respect yours.
It's in this fear mongering and sheer blinding fear that people such as Donald Trump, Putin, Bolsonaro, etc. etc. narrow minded populists like to swim and drag you into tose swamps simply because it serves them really well to divert you from those subjects that really matter debating to improve our societies as a whole.

It only comes in at the end of the DLC content. The game does let you choose whether or not to have a kissing scene at the end, but it is very clear the feelings they put there. So if you care about that, then yes she is. Though its a non-factor until the very ending of the DLC.
Personally I mostly just don't like the love interest they plopped in the DLC. She's way too similar to Aloy and boring because of it. Just the two acting the same and praising eachother the whole time. not the best dynamic or character.
If it were up to me there would be no romantic relationship, and if there had to be I would choose her guy friend Varl since that makes way more sense and has way more meaning and impact than some random new character shoved into a DLC last minute. But the story does not at all even try to hint at that plausible direction.
Anyway thats my gripe. I wasn't impressed by the DLCs story or new characters. I do reccommed the base game though, its a pretty interesting story and characters.
