Can you get everything for free?
In most free to play games, you can grind and get premium items and content for free. But nowhere on the net where I look, no one is really clear about DCUO. They mention feats and levels and DLC-s, but it's kinda hard to understand... What I want to know? Can you fully experience the game without paying a buck, never mind the abysmal grind needed to do so?

And there is no way to buy any DLC with in game currency, or some kind of VIP time?

Correct. You can sub which gets you all of the DLC and a bunch of other useful perks, or you can buy the DLC. There's no way to get them for free.

EDIT:
I should note that the subscription for DC Universe Online is Daybreak All Access, which is $15 a month but gets you benefits in Everquest, Everquest II, Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online.

Bummer... Well, thanks anyway guys! :)

The subscription isn't really all that bad if you're into all four of the MMOs included with it, imo. Wouldn't suggest it if you're just going to be playing one of them though.

I was just asking, because I am looking for a home MMO... I played a lot of MMO-s, yet I have never EVER reached a level cap in any of them. So I am looking for a good older MMO with a lot of grinding.

Does the sub allow you to earn achievements for the dlcs?

Actually, there is.
Membership on PC is AllAccess and that includes Everquest 2. Everquest 2 has Kronos which are traded ingame. These Kronos can be consumed to get AllAccess.

You have to grind Everquest 2 to get them - you wrote "ever mind the abysmal grind needed to do so" - there you have it.

Yeah, I know about the kronos, but don't feel like grinding in a second game to play the first game hahah Still, thank you very much! :D

I still recommend to at least experience the free part of DCUO if you like the DC stories. There is a lot of lore and voice over in the tutorial alone to enjoy and quite a bit beyond.

Everquest is probably the most classic MMO - it is what inspired the worlod hit WoW after all. Too bad the company wasted its potential and strayed away from MMOs.

I played Everquest 1 :) It is a cool mmo, but I feel that official tried to be more up to date with other MMOs, while remaining old. It's still fun though, but I dislike that method that everyone recommends which gives you a biiig amount of points to bypass the content of 10+ expansions. And private servers aren't cool, because they don't advance expansions.
If you're looking for a f2p friendly MMO, then I recommend Lord of the Rings Online. For the first few years I've never spend any money on it and managed to collect enough premium points to buy new areas and eventually reach level cap. It's a 2007 game but it's still getting updates: latest areas added were Mordor and Erebor. It's a chill game where most players are Tolkien enthusiasts.

I did play LOTRO... But it takes forever to grind premium points, I didn't have the nerves... Bit I guess it's manageable if you really want it...
