Does DCUO still suffer from a $300+ paywall? (DLC)

Just wondering, Love the game, But the slew of DLC in the past put me off. The amount of money I could have spent on all those DLC's. I ended up buying AAA games. So i strayed from DCUO. Is it still suffering from a huge DLC paywall? Since they were kind of "needed" to progress. What confuses me was last year I was able to play all the DLC for free, I was highly confused and it wasn't part of some time limited thing. Could it be, they shaped up their model?

these so called time capsules have feats attached on them which is basically gambling on some rng crates that costs to open for 1 dollars i think 1 Freakin DOLLARS well you still need those styles etc. for skill points and that is progression in this game

About the dlc thing i think they are doing previews of DLCs now but only the new ones you can play the open world portion of them they are sometimes doing free open episodes month and that means all of dlc is free for everyone for a limited time ofc

I left the game on Flash museum burglary dlc i think i had good amount of sp for that time too something around 250-260ish

Plus pvp doesnt get any attention at all which is skill based. was...

Yea I remember there being time capsules, I had no Idea they held SP rewarding items, That is really.......bad. I will indeed stay away then. Thanks for the input! I'm not "whale" enough to play this game when there is alternatives for free or cheaper. If i subbed and got access to all the things, Spending money on top of that for lockboxes for extra progression/skill points, sets up a big red "nope" flag.

Glad to be of service. You could buy those items from brokers but ppl will just put them on horrible prices like 10M and even freaking 50M then someone else would just buy it and put it for 60M so broker is a no go too. well it was a no go in late 2016 but i just dont know about it now

To be fair, the DLC content is all available if you sub. It's really not worth buying the DLC. This game's f2p system is one of the worst I've ever seen. The time capsules are just a straight up cash grab, but you can make a good amount of cash selling them. And you can buy the costumes with in game cash.

Sorry as of last month, people were still saying it was $300+ bucks to fully unlock everything without a sub. so your saying $90 bucks and you still wont have it unlocked fully? + we still get slapped with F2P restrictions and have to deal with lockboxes?. If im reading correctly, all together, thats the state of the game right now. $90+ more dlc fee's + lockboxes + f2p restrictions. OR sub/month + lockboxes. I think i'll have to pass on this game. I'm sorry. Its a great game, it really is. But its not worth that hurdle when there is alternatives for free or far cheaper. I thank you for your input on this and clarifying.

I'll say again, Its a great game if you got the extra cash to shell out like that left and right. I personally, like to pay for a game once, OR sub without any side catches. I personally will be giving this game a pass.

Its 90 Dollars for all Powers (except water since it came out last month) all upgrades (Lairs,Utility belts, skimming) You get up to DLC 26 wich is well over a month of content
you dont get to open lockboxes there isnt really any point they just drops styles unless you want omegas or sodas

Lockboxes are optional content.
With the purchaase of the UE a player is premium, NOT FREE (obviously...right?)

You don't get the same restrictions as free players:
Free: 1500 cash cap
Premium: 2000 cash cap

Free: very small inventory
Premium: increased inventory

Free: 2 character slots
Premium: 6 character slots

Free: No trading
Premium: Full item trading availability + 5 broker slots

Free: limited access to gear
Premium: Full access to gear

Free: almost to no stabilizer fragments
Premium: increased stabilizer fragments

Summary:
Premium players are not free players and are equal to subscribers gear wise and have limitations in broker access and crafting. They have far superior game access compared to free players.
It is easy to get the styles from lockboxes by simple item trading, because the styles from lockboxes have become quite common.
For crafting (if you want to deal with that at all) you can also trade with other players.

Currently the UE contains up to epsiode 26. There is no way to tell how many epsiodes will have been released when you reach the end of epsiode 26, but right now there are only 29.

Yes, you can buy an AAA game title with up to 60 gaming hours for that.
How much gaming hours are 26 epsiodes? MMORPGs don't work like that, but I personally think that each epsiode is an average of 4 hours of playtime.

Does DCUO suffer from a paywall? Yes.
Is it $300? No. For only $5 You become premium access. You can unlock full PvP gear access with that.
For $90 you unlock all content that has been released in the last 5 years, and other than in membership, you own it and can come back to it whenever you want.

You can also subscribe for only 1 month and try to play it all in that short time - unless you want to binge it, I'd not recommend to try that.

So I was going to leave this thread alone until today. The full game is relatively cheap if you are frugal. The Ultimate edition cost $90. This includes Episode packs 1, 2 3 and 4. It includes the light power, electricity, earth, quantum, celestial, rage, atomic and munitions (when I got it it didn't include atomic or munitions). It includes the skimming movement (something else that it didn't have when got it) and access to shield weapons, utility belts, and the lair system.

An episode pack if you are not aware is a collection of DLC. Episode 1 pack contains the first five episodes, episode 2 pack contains episodes 6-9, episode 3 pack contains episodes 10-14, and episode 4 pack contains episodes 15-26. As of right now, there are 29 episodes. Buying episodes 27 is priced at $10, episode 28 is priced at $4, and episode 29 is also priced at $4. The new water power costs $5.

To get the full game would cost $113. I have seen and gotten the ultimate edition for $30 last Christmas and the DLC went on sale for half off in the month before the water power was released, If you are Frugal about your purchases the game would could $42.

That's the way I also recommend for casual players. Subscription is the wrong choice for playing very casual.

The UE is a very good deal price-content value can't be better. If you like the game and see the UE on sale - get it.
The other option is the gear up pack and then getting episode bundles.
