If the captain has bodyguards, kill them all with headshot arrows first. I can't beleive i never used to do this. I got very good at juggling attacking/blocking in the middle of 10 orcs but now i realize how easy it is to just dispatch them. Combat drain ability is your friend if you want to do this.
If the captain has combat master (can't use finishers/executions) lure him out somewhere so that the two of you are alone. then just do the vault over him stun and hit him with everything but the last flurry. Don't do the final flurry hit that triggers combat master. Instead vault-stun over him again and repeat. Takes a while but it kills him. Use Wraith Blast (the ground pound thing) whenever you have a combat streak for a bit more damage.
If the captain won't let you vault-stun over him things get more tricky. I had one extremely tough one like this. I ended up pulling him over to another easy captain. I would vault-stun the easy one and flurry him to build up my streak and then use the executions on the tough captain. it helped that i had the double execution ability and the one where i only had to get a streak of 5.
Or save up some cash and buy the final sword ability. the one that gives you 20 seconds of free executions. Build that up before going into the encounter. engage any boss that doesn't have combat master. pop the ability and just use execution after executioni on the boss. doesn't matter how many bodyguards he has. you're always invulnerable during executions. Just need good camera control so you don't end up executing bodyguards and wasting time in your 20 seconds.
Brand all his bodyguard before you do the mission.
I don't think there's a rune for this. Storm or Urfael is the last ability down the sword upgrades. costs around 2400.
If you're having trouble with a lvl 20 captain just do all the side missions and get all the cash. Upgrading your weaopns to have more runes, getting storm of urfael, more health, more elf shot, etc all make a HUGE difference.
If the warchiefs don't have the stealth weakness, note what weaknesses they do have. Monster slayer is also important to note, if the captains or warchiefs don't have this, then caragors will help you in the fight. Release caragors into the genereal area or shoot meat that attracts caragors. use Fire dmg to wipe out a large force of orcs and dmg captains and warchiefs, either using a bow arrow shot on campfires or grog.
With dealing with the captains, you want to attack them usually when they are dealing with something else, like dueling with another captain or figthing a monster, etc.
There are 3 main strategies you can use when fighting them: E key lets you drain them from a slight distance from them, this doesn't work that well if they have the jump skill, gotta time it better. Use a bow to take out extra normal orcs, make sure no alarms are set off and use your bow to kill any about to set off an alarm.
if they aren't immune to range, then you can use arrows, even if they aren't vulnerable to it, they will still take damage. use Q key to throw daggers, this lets you get some breathing room. it also takes no elf shot to throw daggers. You need tohave purchased this in upgrades ot use the throw daggers.
If they aren't angered by burns you can blow up grog and campfires to damage them with arrows. Use caragors if they don't have monster slayer to help weaken them. its best to make the caragor your pet to make sure it doesn't attack you.
If you take significant damage while doing this make sure you leave combat and grab some flowers to get back full health, then go back in and continue.
If they aren't immune to stealth attacks you can hide, attack them from stealth, and then leave the area, and then go back and stealth them again, they will take damage from the stealth attacks but it won't kill them outright.
