What is the point of the Nemesis system?
Other than to get Runes?

Runes have nothing to do with the Nemesis system, just saying

Yes they do, if you level up an Orc enough through the system they drop better Runes.

To do something innovative. Monolith could have easily copied the Ubisoft open world forumula ( tons of generic meaningless tasks), but they chose to do something different.

You see, you got the entire concept of Nemesis system wrong. Levels and all are part of the game which are then tied in to the Nemesis system. They do not make the nemesis system.

What is the point of randomly generated Uruks with various different traits and personalities?
Now that we are on the subject what is the point of breeding dogs? I just don't get it... *sarcasm*

My point is you can do all this stuff like branding, levelling them up, order them to attack other Orcs etc... yet all you really gain from it are runes.

To have a potentially infinite game if you like slaugthering uruks and messing with that system, which i love and i could pass hours just doing that.

Replay value and variety. Creates a dynamic world where many things could happen.

Could have been better if you could control territory.

Well the journey is more exciting than the destination if you ask me.

To put it short, for variety, for immersion, and to convey certain emotions to the player.

To create a different playing enviroment each time you play. To create a world that feels alive to you, where you can get emotionally involved because there are uruks that you have a hatred for and want vengence. The nemesis system adds a crap ton of immersion into the game. I have never played any other game where I wanted to kill an enemy so bad, or feared an enemy so much.
well said sir. Here's an excellent example of what the system can result in: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/columns/extra-punctuation/12478-Shadow-of-Mordor-Storytelling-in-a-Middle-earth-Game?utm_source=latest&utm_medium=index_carousel&utm_campaign=all
