Shadows of Mordor running poorly on low settings (HD 7870)
Shadow of Mordor is running playable at low settings, it's quite laggy/jerky/choppy after loading sections, menus and several combat animations however.

After reading a lot of things, it is said to be well optimized and seems like it should have no trouble running at more demanding settings.

The benchmark has the average at 85fps, looks reasonably smooth.
Messed with all the graphics settings(everything is on low) changed resolutions, Vsync off/on, windowed mode etc.
I've monitored my video card resources, it's not trying to use more vram than it has.(its also not using the motherboard's integrated card)
tried the latest drivers from AMD (regular and beta)

I've been tinkering with this game for ages and cannot get the performance other people seem to have on comparable systems. Anyone else have the same issue with AMD cards especially and/or have a solution?

specs:
AMD Radeon HD 7870
i7-4790k 4.0ghz Quad-Core
8g ram
Installed on an SSD(also tried on HDD)

Yeah. I've always got an average of 30 FPS on all high settings with my HD 7950 whenever I have at least a dozen uruks on screen. I would expect it to do better too...

Make sure you're not using Vsync, it severely lowers your fps for this game. Run the game borderless, instead of fullscreen, and get the "Windowed Borderless Gaming" program - it solved any problems I had with performance.

Hope that helps.

i only have a 4670k and a HD 7870, i run the game just fine. I'll check my settings and be back to edit in a sec.

edit: ok: i have it on borderless windowed mode, not that it makes much difference its just nice to be able to ult tab.

resolution: 70% (1792 x 1008) yeah, its a waste of my high res monitor, but it still looks fine and id rather smoother frame rates than higher res.

vsync: off. duh.

Lighting: High
Mesh :High
Motion Blur: off (no one likes that ♥♥♥♥)
Shadows: High
Texture Filtering:Ultra
Texture quality: Medium
Ambient Occlussion: High
Vegetation range: medium
DoF: on
OiT: off
Tesselation : on

Realy the main setting i have there is playing the game at lower res, but IMO the game looks fine and it runs fine, it makes me happy. Its pretty much 60 fps or over all the time, a few dips but nothing too jarring. If you still get crappy fps make sure your drivers are up to date.

OP's issue is quite a common one and one that I have as well as AMD Crossfire users as you can see in the link below. Nvidia users too have this issue.

See:

If the borderless suggestions above don't work for you then, like me you're well out of luck until Monolilth release a patch.

I was running this game perfectly fine from release on a 5ghz overclocked i7 2600k with 16gb ram and a 2GB 6970 with 50fps across the board.

I then decided to upgrade this card to an R9 290 and bam, crashing frame rates and stuttering/juddering menu's. Ingame my frame rates plummet to around 11fps from 80 and combat and travel can be a nightmare. This happens randomly for about 10-15 seconds.

I've tried various Catalyst drivers, even the latest 14.9.1's and they've made zero difference. On Low settings the game still stutters all over the place - I've essentially never seen anything like this before period.

If you haven't any luck fixing it then I'd advise shooting WB a ticket and letting them know of your experience - they are listening.
