Power struggles confusing
I have now done 2 of them and not sure how they work.

First one, I started mission and watched a rank 9 captain kill a caragoth(warg thingy) and it then says complete and +40 power. I am guessing I got the +40 power but I am unclear why I succeed by just watching and get +40 power?

Second one, this time there was some Captain trying to recruit. I went there and beat him until he fled. I did not see + power show up and it just says he fled. Confused if I should have helped him or hurt him there?

Power struggles are resolved by ending them or letting them play out. Usually if you let them play out one of the generals becomes stronger. If you end them, depending on the scenario, the enemy is killed or flees. Usually you get a reward either way. Also if you die all power struggles are resolved at that time and new ones appear.

You're not supposed to do any certain thing. It's up to you to decide. If you want the captain to succeed (and grow more powerful) then help them. If you want to take advantage of the situation and ambush them, do that instead. If you don't really care about the outcome, feel free to just sit back and watch.

You get the power increase simply for participating, the outcome has nothing to do with it.

OK thanks for clearing that up for me.

like with a duel or something you can sit back or decide who lives and who dies in the duel

OK I just had a bugged one I guess. I hit control to start it, then it started a cutscene (one weaker orc I wanted to win was supposed to be 'executing' a more powerful guy) and then after 1 or 2 seconds it cut out and said 'Resolved' and my guy fled.
