5.1 audio?????
Running a 5.1 audio system (Logitech Z 5500) plugged into my onboard audio with my Asus Sabertooth 990fx mobo. Running analog and not getting 5.1 true audio from the game. I get great sound from my center and 2 fronts and sub but nada from my surround speakers.

Anyone else noticing a lack of true 5.1? If you're running a "split" system, ie, running a eq or software that simulates surround please note that it is NOT the same as true 5.1 surround.

Same here but different; center is not working here so its going on the 2 fronts which makes the narrative/talk sound really bad/low. But it seems no one cares about good audio on PC master race (people use headsets). Had a couple of games who have this problem, yet console(s) provide DTS/DD 5.1 and even PCM 7.1 like its nothing.

Seems the way right now is 2.1 but then i can just use my DT770 headset.

I'm having no issues whatsoever, with either my 5.1 headset or my home theater setup (also 5.1)

Can you provide your settings? Are you using a receiver or just a plug and play system?

Sure no problem -

Home Theater is using an optical cable from the receiver to the sound card (Xonar D2X) - it's running in Dolby Live. All channels work fine.

My headset is a dolby headset which is technically software, as it only has two speakers, but it still receives the data from traditional surround sound and all channels work there. It's a Logitech G930 which is USB / built in sound card.

A good place to check is when Talion's wife is humming at the start of the game.

I'd use optical except I have that hooked up to the PS4 for now. Still, my analog is running Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic as well as DTS. I'll double check but I've been checking on and off, even putting my ear to the surround speakers and not hearing anything. It's even on 6 channel direct which should give me true 5.1 if the game is providing it.

This game "appears" to just have kinda random mixing. I do not seem to get 5.1, only 2 channel stereo, except for cutscenes, during which my center and rear channels pop in. But otherwise no directional sound during gameplay. Odd, I am using optical from a soundblaster with Dolby Digital 5.1. Directional sound has been working for me other games (Divinity: Original Sin. Wasteland 2). So hmmm.

That is really strange...funnily enough, I've had issues with a lot of games using Dolby 5.1 & Optical...but none with Shadow of Mordor.

The sound just kicked into 5.1 the other day. I had let it sit for 2 days while I got back on Wasteland 2 and when I came back and booted it up the 5.1 was in full effect. Very odd. I'd say it might have been the 5.1 on my mobo but I literally just took that puppy out of the plastic 2 weeks ago and every other game has sounded fantastic on it. Still scratching my head on this one though. Odd.

To add to this. I use an old analog setup (Three audio cables) to my onboard sound on my mobo, everything works fine for 5.1 in all things except Shadow of Mordor, which ignores my center channel during gameplay.

I'm not getting surround either :/ I'm running an HDMI from my GTX 760 to my 5.1 receiver (Yamaha RX-V337) I have the sound setting set to "Home Theater" in the in-game options. Any help? I know most of the commenters have stated they are using an optical cable but that shouldn't really matter, right? Do I need Dolby Live or DTS Connect?
Edit: My signal info from my receiver shows the game is sending 2.0 PCM.

Go to configuration screen -> sound -> Select Receiver -> configure it as 2.1/stereo -> Use Surround decoding on receiver for 5.1. (Dolby Pro Logic II Game/DTS?)

It works for me but its not the same as real 5.1 ofc (Using Yamaha rx-v375)

I don't use optical for my pc games because sometimes pc games don't recognize it as true 5.1. However, they do recognize analog 5.1 pretty darn good.

Thanks for that link btw. Good info there.

I use HDMI from my HD7950 to my receiver, no optical nor analog. its the easiest way without any hassle and moneywise.

so basically you're saying to just use pro logic or neo:6 and just deal with it? thats essentially what a surround sound headset is doing right?

I think that is what he's saying. Basically using a sound decoder to emulate 5.1.
