What are the heads on spikes, in the hierarchy menu?

Does it mean the kill was confirmed? Is that spot now un-usable for other captains? Would love if someone would explain :)

That mean's that they were decapitated, and they do NOT have a chance to come back to life, unlike the other captains who have corpses in their place. The one's with corpses have a chance to come back, the one with heads on pikes do NOT have a chance to come back.
