Just use a controller or rebind the keys, pretty sure the game was made for consoles so it's to be expected.

While it's possible to play with mouse and keyboard, I wouldn't recommend it. Like most 3rd person action games, this is very clearly intended to be played with a controller.

I have no problems playing the game with keyboard, works just fine.

Rebind them?

For me it was enough to switch Ctrl to stealth and Shift to grab so it feels more like the controls in an Assassin's Creed game.

No need for a platform war. On PC we can get it all. We have the ability to plug an Xbox controller directly into our PC's and just have it work.

Some games are better with certain controllers - that's just a fact. FPS and RTS games are best with a mouse and keyboard. Flight sims are best with a joystick. 3rd person action games or platformers are best with a game controller. Insisting on just using one control scheme because you are on PC is silly. You have choices.

If you are an avid PC gamer, you owe it to yourself to pickup an wired Xbox controller for games like this.

I generally agree that certain control methods are better for certain genres, but I just don't get why controllers are supposed to be better than keyboard and mouse for 3rd person action games and platformers.

My personal problem is that I hate the layout of the XBox controller, and that seems to have become the standard. I prefer the PS controller layout, but the only decent ones seem to be the actual PS controllers. If someone knows of a good, but not too expensive alternative, I'd be grateful to hear about it.

The xbox controller is disgustingly inprecise and almost as uncomfortable as using the keyboard. another decent controller is really expensive for just a single game.
I hate pc ports with horrible, poorly thought out controls. this is what puts me off playing witcher 2+3 and the majority of 3rd person games. CS:GO and skyrim are the only 2 games I think does it right for keyboard controls

A few reasons:
1) Because of analog stick precision. WSAD are binary, they are either pressed or they aren't, so things like slowly moving forward or walking are difficult to do. You usually have to press two keys at once on keyboard to switch between walking and running. Also, WSAD only lets you move in 4 directions. You usually have to rotate the camera to move in a different direction. With an analog stick, you have 360 degrees of movement.

2) A lot of 3rd person action games rely on fast-paced combos. These are ifinitely easier to pull off with a controller. On a keyboard, you have to map whole combos to certain keys and become a touch-typing contorntionist.

3) A lot of controls in some platformers or action games have differences between pushing the button and releasing, or holding it. Again, easier to do on a controller.

The irony...
First, i was being sarcastic
Second, you say "no need for a platform war", then IN THE NEXT SENTENCE, YOU SAY SOMETHING IMPLYING PC IS BETTER?

I disagree on all counts.

1) There are so many buttons in easy reach on a keyboard or mouse that having one button switch between walking and running is easily possible (heck, some games waste two buttons on three forms of movement because we have that luxury), and 360° movement is easily obtained by turning the camera with the mouse, just like you said. You don't have to rotate it far to get the whole range of movement, because m+k doesn't have just four directions, but eight. You never need to rotate the camera by more than 22,5°. On the other hand, if I need to look or turn around quickly, the mouse is vastly superior to the controller, though some games dedicate one of the precious few controller buttons to that function, and many games have some form of ranged weapon that controller users have to use a clumsy lock-on system for or suffer from slow, imprecise movement while m+k allows effortless free aiming.

2) Absolutely not. Why would you have to map whole combos to single keys? A controller achieves combos by chaining together button presses, m+k can easily do the same. Where did you get that idea?

3) Er, no, that's really exactly the same on a keyboard as it is on a controller. You either tap or hold. No difference there.

I remapped mine to make them more like the Fallout games I've gotten used to, which I had remapped to be more like Oblivion. One thing that really annoys me however is having one key do several different things, depending on the circumstances. In particular, the Counter key is the same one used for a ranged attack. As a result, I rarely use Counter because I can never be sure whether it's going to bring the bow attack instead, and there's usually just too much going on for me to notice that icon that recommends the Counter. It would have been really nice if we would have had the option of separating some of those multiple functions. It's not like a keyboard has any shortage of keys we could use. Another thing that annoys me is trying to sneak around some building, and the next thing I know my character is climbing the walls. I would prefer being able to select an option for climbing, instead of it happening automatically. The whole climbing mechanism I find clumsy frankly, especially the dismount. I'm never quite sure which side of a wall I'm going to come down on.

Imho, when a game includes a weapon that shoots where you aim, k+m become far supperior.

This goes as far as perverting designs used in console games. Some of the bonus goals in SoM are ridiclous with K+M: those DLC warbands for example all have "kill minions first" as a bonus. Given that you get a fill of arrows on mission start the only reason not to headshot the lot of them on first sight is having a max of 4 arrows. And even then I would take effort not to accidentally kill the fifth minion while fighting the boss.
